QR1: Paul Bishop WR 1545 lost to Kaes van't Hof (USA) WR 654 by 5 & 3
L32: James Ward WR 285 v Qualifier
Hopefully that will be a good chance to get some more points, but (3) John Isner (USA) WR 113 would probably await in R2.
Mariano Puerta has withdrawn with a leg injury here after giving Zeballos a w/o in the Pereira Challenger semis today ... if only that had happened a day earlier!

't (pronounced 'ut') stands for 'het', i.e. "the". Hof is an old form of "hoofd" = "head", so van 't Hof means (son) of the head. (as in the person in charge of something, I assume)

L32: James Ward WR 272 v (Q) Tim Smyczek (USA) WR 452 (CH: 319, Feb 09)
Smyczek's last match against a Brit was a loss to Jonny Marray in Tulsa last September, Jonny winning in two tiebreak sets, the second going to 13-11. His last win against a Brit was against Matthew Hanlin in 2005 (the year Hanlin cracked the top 500 for a week) and in between, he has lost to Baker and Boggo as well and he is 1-5 v Brits overall.
The Bishop and Mikk Irdoja (EST) have a WC into the doubles and will take on no. 3 seeds van't Hof (again) and Mankad (IND) at about the same time as James is due to play his singles match (last matches on their respective courts) - I could say Paul and Mikk they have no chance, but that would be Harsh ...
Wardy and Matthew Ebden (AUS) have more of a Treat in store on Tuesday against de Heart (USA) and Huey (PHI), with the winners of the two matches involving Brits meeting in the QFs.

I'm pleased you did that yourself boyo.
Whatever happened to Matt? I remember there being an article in the British Tennis mag that came with Ace when I first subscribed, next I checked he was pretty much gone!
Excellent stuff, I thought he might find that match quite tough (e.g. win but not in straight sets) but he's obviously on a roll No. 3 seed Isner (not my idea of a clay courter, but otherwise quite scary!) or Ramon Delgado next.

I wonder if "green clay" is a best of both worlds for him half way between the dirt and the hard? I tihnk Isner has done ok at Houston ATP in the past so he may be the one to come through. Mello is a wily old competitor though
