Week 17 - Challenger (EUR30+H) - Tenerife, Spain

Outdoor Hard another 'new' event

We have 2 Brits in the QD...and Goodall in the MD.

QR1: Chris Eaton GBR vs. Adrian Menendez-Maceiras ESP [8]

QR1:
Karlis Lejnieks LAT vs. Jonathan Marray GBR

Chris has the no 1 seed Prpic in his section. Jonny has
Chiudinelli the 3rd seed.

The main draw has drawn some top 100 players with the likes of

Lu, Yen-Hsun TPE WR55, Petzschner, Philipp GER WR71 and Navarro, Ivan ESP WR101. Maybe the want a bit of sun !

Goodall, Joshua GBR WR198 should be seeded.

No Bloomers or Slabba ... surely they haven't decided they prefer the clay in Bournemouth instead?

Perhaps....I doubt they need the week off and doubt they would try and qualify for Tunis ?

LOL that's on red clay, so I doubt it!

Edit: the drawsheet works again, they're not there.

the 3rd seed is 101 but Goodall at 198 should be seeded...that's a bit of a drop

Good luck to Chris...he'll need it!

He would have been seeded if seedings were based on rankings as at the entry date, but of course they're not and Josh has dropped quite a bit since then.

Instead, not  to be outdone by its performance in the Rhodes draw, crap draws R us strikes again here:

L32: Josh Goodall WR 231 v (1) Yen-Hsun Lu (TPE) WR 63

Yes, that is the player who beat Muzza at the Olympics!

Qualifiers get Sirianni, Vicente, a Spanish WC I've never heard of or a Spanish WC I've just about heard of, so plenty of incentive to qualify!

Obviously the incentive to qualify had more effect on their opponents than on them.  No idea what Chris is doing getting thrashed 1 & 3 by someone ranked less than 50 places above him who was playing his first match not on clay this year and whose record off clay in the last 12 months is W 1 L 8. ashamed

To add insult to injury, the player who beat Chris got the winner of a match between two unranked Spaniards in QR2 and won it 1 & 0!

Horrible tournament for the Brits - didn't go at all well for the boys in qualifying, while Josh gets a nightmare draw in the main draw - be surprised if he got anywhere close to beating Lu who seems to be having a decent season,

Aucks' partner for this week is Goody.no Seeded 3 and drawn against a WC Spanish pair. They're not playing tomorrow but Josh's singles match is not before 16.00 local time, on CC. Jamie D also here with Meffert as his partner. They don't feature tomorrow.
