Chris Eaton has had the guts to spend £600+ on air fair for this challenger and, been rewarded with being 3rd seed and no-one else inside the top 1,000 in his section. 5pts for qualifying, 8pts for winning a 1st round main draw.
So that's why he didn't turn up for week 14 qualifying in Mexico. Excellent tournament selection by him (and spotting by you!), I was really hoping one of the Brits would turn up here, fingers crossed he can take advantage.

I was hoping Greg Howe would turn up here as it is presumably the school holdiays. Still great to see Eaton there and considering I haven't heard of anyone in his section he should qualify with ease.
Ross Hutchins not in qualies here so maybe a sign that he at least will try and get into Monte Carlo.
If Eaton doesn't qualify, then maybe tennis isn't the right career for him...
Can't ask for a nicer qualifying draw than that - and he really shouldn't have any trouble qualifying - just a shame that not more Brits decided it would be worth the risk to travel for this event.
That wud require a big jump in consistency and performance. Wud he not be in wimby qualifing rather than nottingham. Does he not need a ranking over 250 for Wc?

Like those are the biggest flaws in our resident comedian's argument ... I think going up from an average of half a ranking point a week over the indoor season (which ought to suit him) to over a hundred points per week for five weeks might be, how you say, a bit ambitious, no?

The 2010 tennis masters cup final in Lodon will be a 5 set thriller with Eaton beating Boretti
7-5 5-7 6-0 4-6 13-11
but on a more serious note, do not think eaton will get a wimby wildcard, if he gets a quali wild card it means he misses nottingham(or watever its called), where he is fav to win.
14 bakery products (including three double bagels) handed out in 10 matches in QR1 - one of the double bagels was recorded by Chris's opponent:
QR2: (3) Chris Eaton WR 383 v Justin Bower (RSA) UNR
Bower is a 30-year-old who is unranked now but has been ranked as high as 180, though that was 8 years ago. Like Chris, he once qualified and then won a round at Wimby also like Chris, he has lost to Tursunov, though not at Wimby. Unlike Chris, he has 1-0 career records against Davydenko, Ancic and Tipsy!
Something drastic must have happened at the end of 2004, because he stopped playing ranked events while on a 23-match winning streak (!), winning three Futures in consecutive weeks in the US and then qualifying for and winning another Future in South Africa. His only matches recorded on ITF since were two singles losses in a DC tie v Morocco in Sep 2005.
Bower's only previous match against a Brit this century was a straight sets win against Lee Childs in 2002 and his very old H2H against Brits is 5-1.

Bower looks to be what could best be termed a dangerous floater given his past performances, but having not played for such a long time, I doubt he's still at the same level.

I can see him having trouble qualifying. I love his style of play as much as the next man, but he hasn't even been playing at a top 750 standard this year, and from what I hear he's hardly the outright favourite for match against Bower.
