Week 15 Futures - Turkey F5 ($10k) - Antalya 5 - Belek

QR1: Dan Smethurst WR 1065 v (WC) Ilhan Mutlu (TUR) UNR - winner likely to face (q1) in QR2
QR1: Neil Pauffley WR 1374 v (q16) Henrik Norfeldt (SWE) WR 823
QR1: Alexander Ward WR 849 v (q10) Martin Emmrich (GER) WR 766
QR1: (q5) Matt Illingworth WR 707 v Nikolai Soloviev (RUS) WR 1641
QR1: (q6) Josh Milton WR 716 v Matthias Kolbe (GER) WR 1366
QR1: Marcus Willis WR 945 v Goncalo Falcao (POR) WR 1293

I assume Dan Cox got a special exempt place in the main draw after his QF win today.

Tough schedule for Willis, 6 matches in as many days and now he's gotta go through qualies all over again

...plus he has Sluiter (who has a QWC) in his section. Ouch!

As expected Evans has pulled out of the main draw.

Smethurst won 6-2 6-1 and faces top seed Sanon in 2nd round, Pauffley lost a close match 7-6 (6) 7-6 (5), Ward got beat 6-4 6-4, Illingworth lost 6-3 3-6 4-6 . No results for Milton or Willis...not a great return so far!

Josh is at least a set to the good.

Ward and Pauffley seem to have battled fairly well in tough matches.

Matt just isn't having a great time at the moment

QR1: Dan Smethurst WR 1065 beat (WC) Ilhan Mutlu (TUR) UNR by 2 & 1 smile.gif
QR1: Neil Pauffley WR 1374 lost to (q16) Henrik Norfeldt (SWE) WR 823 by 7-6(6) 7-6(5) cry
QR1: Alexander Ward WR 849 lost to (q10) Martin Emmrich (GER) WR 766 by 4 & 4 cry
QR1: (q5) Matt Illingworth WR 707 lost to Nikolai Soloviev (RUS) WR 1641 by 3-6 6-3 6-4 bleh
QR1: (q6) Josh Milton WR 716 leads Matthias Kolbe (GER) WR 1366 by 6-3
QR1: Marcus Willis WR 945 v Goncalo Falcao (POR) WR 1293 - not started

QR2: Dan Smethurst WR 1065 v (q1) Valentin Sanon (CIV) WR 631
QR2: Milton or Kolbe v Aleksandr Agafonov (UKR) WR 908
QR2: Willis or Falcao v (q12) Rodrigo Perez (CHI) WR 787

Not a nice combination - a dreadful result for Matt who was seeded to qualify, the Wardinator seems to be having a lull again, our one definite winner so far faces the no. 1 seed and the other two possible winners have to complete (or in Meatball's case) start their QR1 matches tomorrow and then potentially play rested opponents in QR2. doh

Can I ask if anyone knows why Alex Ward bothered turning up for the Qualies this week? I was under the impression that this tournament is on hard courts (or am I mistaken?).

Surely Alex is more at home grinding it out on the clay courts?

Good results for Milton and Willis and a good display from Dan Smethurst who looks to have only narrowly missed out on taking out top seed Sanon, shame he got such a **** draw

QR1: (q6) Josh Milton WR 716 bt Matthias Kolbe (GER) WR 1366 6-3, 6-2
QR1: Marcus Willis WR 945 bt Goncalo Falcao (POR) WR 1293 6-1, 6-1

QR2: Dan Smethurst WR 1065 lost to (q1) Valentin Sanon (CIV) WR 631 6-3, 2-6, 5-7
QR2: (q6) Josh Milton WR 716 bt Aleksandr Agafonov (UKR) WR 908 6-3, 6-4
QR2: Marcus Willis WR 945 bt (q12) Rodrigo Perez (CHI) WR 787 6-4, 6-2

Unfortunately both have tough final round qualies matches.....Milton's opponent Jaymon Crabb has been top 200 in the past though he's now outside top 1000 and Willis could play Sluiter

Unfortunately, they couldn't: Josh losing in three, 6-4 5-7 6-7(5) and Marcus in two, 5-7 6-7(4). Another good effort from Marcus, and although a close match it was disappointing to see Josh lose one he should have won.

This leaves Coxy as the only representative in the MD and he's drawn Thomas Oger, the 6th seed.
