Excellent, and to answer your question, he's the first GB male player to gain his first point in 2009 - Hutch and Max Jones have entered the rankings this year, but they were both ranked before.

Well done to Niall - he just needed one good draw to finally get that point. If only he could steer himself away from tournaments with 128 qualifying draws he might start to rack up a few more points!
That's exactly my point - he enters into a smaller sized draw and come out of it with a point. However if you look back over the previous year he has often had to win 3-4 matches just to qualify.
i think though you have to do the big qualies at first to establish yourself at that level and get used to winning qualies matches and pitching yourself in with WR players then after a while go on a trip like this to get the points - so you make a good point in him now avvoidign the big qualies to increase his tally
