Why?

I know this subject has been done to death but.......I still cannot get over it.  The new ranking points this is.  All last years points were doubled but, unless you win the event, this years points are pretty similar to the undoubled points.

A quarter final in a 15k last year won 3pts, doubled to 6pts, this years tournaments award only 3pts again.  So if you successfuly match a result from last year, you'll be 3pts worse off!  Where's the logic?

Next week Boggo defends 54pts (after being doubled from 27) yet the same result this year would be worth less than 30pts.

Bloomers is in a similar situation the week after.

Why!  It's doing my head in.  Had to share.  Sorry!

Why? Etienne de Villiers thought the tournament structure had to be simplified - fine. Why they couldn't have done that without doubling the points is beyond me.

In my view it makes it even harder to climb the rankings by winning matches.

It is messing withmy head to find the solution as to what is the best strategyfor this year. i guess winning games now will pay dividends in 6 to 9 months time when other people's doubled points are dropping off.

The other thing is that there seems to be fewer events foing on at the moment so actually picking up points seems to be pretty hard - if you are ranked say 600-900, you have to qualify first for a future and win a round to pick up 1 point (which is really half a point versus all the other doubled points).

If a lower ranked person does this for four or five weeks in a row, they'll need twice as many results before they can automatically qualify.

Meqanwhile a few of our players will benefit. Evans, for example is sitting pretty having picked up good, doubled points at the end of last year. If he fails to get on well for a few tournaments, then he'll probably still rise in the rankings and possible quite quickly.

It's weird and unfair.

I'm not saying it was perfect before, but it wasn't really broken, so I can't see it needed fixing.

That's my two penneth worth.

yes i agree it does make it hard to climb the rankings, but statisically speakingm there will be thu s more people link boggo and bloomers defending larger points and dropping down rankings.

So by mathmatical therom, a player may climb the rankings by the fact other players will be dropping futher down?? anyone agree?
