Two of our Davis Cup outcasts are out in Germany but have been drawn in the same section of a draw which is headed by an old foe.

QR1: Jonny Marray WR 434 v (q4) Frederik Nielsen (DEN) WR 277
QR1: (q8) Richard Bloomfield WR 318 v Kevin Deden (GER) WR 524

Oh good, I was hoping the 'JL think we're too old for DC' players might pop up here or in Besancon. smile.gif

Well they would have been better going for Besancon it's a bigger challenger and a weaker qualifying draw (Bloomers would have been seeded 2nd there). Sods law I suppose everyone floods to the supposed weaker challenger and no-one goes for the bigger one because they think it will be too strong.

yes, and theres possibly also the thought that if they do make it through will have a better chance of drawing a easier player.

Jonny and Bloomers have both played Nielsen twice. The last time Jonny Marray played him was the last match of the Dane's Brit-bashing streak when Jonny lost a tight semi-final in the 2008 Dublin Challenger 6-7(8) 7-6(4) 6-3 and Bloomers lost to him 4 & 4 in Izmir Challenger qualifying, also last year.

The other tournament they both played him at was the 2006 Dublin Challenger, where Jonny lost to him 6-4 1-6 6-4 in R1, but Bloomers beat him two rounds later 7-6(1) 2-6 7-5 on his way to the semis.

I know ... and an "Ibiza" party. Still, wasn't it here where they advertised on the site that there was a stripper at the player's party last year?

Come to think of it, I wonder if that answers Wolf's "why didn't they go to Besancon?" question LOL

Could be difficult getting results from here, the tournament website is next to useless! It has no player or draw info (yet), don't buy a VW! If I am correct it was much better previous years.

tennislive.tv will stream it from Wednesday-Sunday next week:
25.Feb.-01.Mar.2009 ATP-Challenger 6. Volkswagen Challenger Wolfsburg

Lets hope we still have an interest by then!

Main Draw is out - Boggo has drawn Gary Lugassy (FRA) WR 310  in rd 1

Singles Main Draw

No results from any of todays qualifying matches anywhere - what a crap challenger!

PS.
They have just sent me results so far which I have posted on MTF. plus tomorrow OOP.
No results of interest yet in bottom 1/4 .

to quote the reply -
"we appologize that there are no current draws on our site. I think, we will start with this at sunday or monday after qualifying."

Let's hope for Dublin 2006 all over again then ... wink

(from above) "The other tournament they both played him at was the 2006 Dublin Challenger, where Jonny lost to him 6-4 1-6 6-4 in R1, but Bloomers beat him two rounds later 7-6(1) 2-6 7-5 on his way to the semis."

I hope Richard and Jonny team up for doubles. I'm not sure if they'd make the cut or not?
