We know that the LTA like to set targets that they don't ever seem to achieve, so last year I said an achieveable target was 12 Britsh male players in the top 500. We got 10, but it was close up to the last couple of months.
Next year, this is my target that I think the LTA should strive for ...
8 British male players to be in the top 250 by Wimbledon (meaning they are all eligible automatically or by Wild Card). What do other Boarders think?
i'd say boggo, josh and wardy will all be top 250 then. its touch and go for muzza, will have to raise his level a bit i think, wasn't too impressed with his opening matches i think bloomers can do it, with some good scheduling, he can pick up a lot of points in futures, but will have to see if he can have an impact at challenger level.
Slabba's started the year well it seems so its a possibility, if he can keep beating players around the 225-250's.
its a big climb for evans to make tho (currently on 114 points with 300 needed to make the top 250 at the moment - although i guess that will drop as more doubled points come off), and also for baker, we still have to see if he gets back to his old self really
so i think it's doable, but also unlikely they will all be there by wimby, and a great achievment if they do. Also unfortunately i dont see the press getting behind them too much, bar wins at GS/DC/ATP level the backing isnt great.

If you mean the Times then yes, maybe, but most of the press won't be happy until we have 8 players getting into the second week. LOL
That sounds look a good target though - not impossible, but extremely tough, and it would show real progress if it was achieved.
I agree with most of the Count's analysis, but one big thing in Evo's favour is that only 12 of his 114 points are due to come off inthe first half of the year.
Indeed, if Evo doesn't push on significantly by Wimby and start scoring points in Challengers regularly by then, he's really going to be up against it in the second half of the year when he has all those points to defend and will move backwards even if he wins the same Futures as he did last year.

Someone on MTF re-ranked all of the current top 100's 2008 tournament scores using the 2009 points and ended up with 531 for 100th place, remarkably low I thought and it does show quite how much more important matches won in the second half of 2008 are going to be than matches won in the first half of 2009.
It will be higher than that in the end because he didn't take into account players who aren't in the top 100 at the moment but would have been had the new ranking points system been used last year and of course it will be remain closed to 926 than 531 while there are still lots of doubled points from 2008 tournaments on the system too.
If I had to guess, I'd say players will need about 600 points for a top 100 place by the year end.

Players whose points are more 2nd half of the season, so may benefit most, are Dan Evans, Jonny Marray and Colin Flemming (especially in doubles!) The biggest loser will be Jamie Baker.
I can't believe that the ATP will not put their hands up to this error and re-align the points more fairly though??????
