RE: The Times

Latest news is Boris Becker wants to get involved with the LTA. Hmm i wonder how this will pan out.

Also in the, mail i think, it says Greg is the one receiving £2k per day that he works with Golding, 50 days per year, that works at £100k per year.

i hope Golding makes it for his own sake after this.

Not bad doe if you can get it.
Although I have to say as an ex GB player, Greg should get more stick for this somewhat inflated pay package than the LTA.

Following on from the last two posts, OEM reports in the Net Post today (http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/columnists/neil-harman/article2770534.ece
if you happen to have access) that:

We hear that Oliver Golding, one of the brighter young things in the British game, may have chosen to spend more time training in Mexico, where he has a girlfriend, than at the National Tennis Centre, where the LTA would prefer that he learns his trade. Where this would leave Greg Rusedski, who had been paid handsomely to coach Golding by his British lords and masters, we dont really know.

His main focus this week, though, is on proposals to cut the length of the season, a story that runs and runs.

Another good read is his article about Fed 'believing' in Muzza's ability to win a slam ... http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/tennis/article2771013.ece

Finally, Alex Willis from ACE has written an article about the more private Murray which looks very balanced and probably very accurate to me at http://tiny.cc/nk57h (though the link is now, hopefully only temporarily, not working)

Hopefully Ollie won't take his eye off the ball, and I can certainly understand why the LTA would want him to train if not at the NTC at a respected tennis academy, irrespective of the situation with Greg.

I also have to say that Alex's articles are always worth reading.

His girlfriend is Carolina Betancourt (http://www.itftennis.com/womens/players/player.asp?player=100122217), so I guess he'd be using the same facilities as her.

All the best to Oli and his girlfriend.

But getting back to his tennis ( which is all we really care about  smile  ), like Phil I really do hope he doesn't take his eye off the ball, things have progressed pretty well this year, though I am a bit surprised not to be seeing him trying his hand more in Futures now.

Good to see  smile    Actually after I mentioned futures I did wonder if there were any futures coming up in Mexico.

There are five futures tournaments in Mexico between now and the end of the year (weeks commencing 01/11, 08/11, 22/11, 29/11 and 06/12).

So lets see there are lot's of tournements in Mexico, the climate is very agreeable and his girlfriend is there. I would be very concrened if he would rather be in Britain.

Why are we worried about respected academies in Mexico? It's not like the LTA churns out a top 100 player a year. The proof of the pudding is in its taste, not how it looks.Anyway, this can only be good for Golding and I want him to go there permanently.

I think RJA's post makes good sense for the short term in the circumstances.  Can't say your longer term idea makes too much sense to me though.  Anyway I rather doubt that will happen  hmm.gif

I'm probably being thick (it's been a hard day ...) but OEM has just tweeted ...

@GBtennis Keeping you on your toes Steven!!

... fair enough smile (though a bit worrying that he seems to be turning into the Count wink), but I'm mystified as to what he's referring to - can anyone help?

He maybe by stating that Roddick overtakes Ferrer in points chase for London, be comparing himself to you when your last tweet described the battle for GB number 4 on the women's side.
