Week 47 - Yokohama Challenger ($35K+ H) - 2008

Josh seems to have pulled out of this, unfortunately (probably didn't think he'd be able to get over the jetlag after staying in Jersey to the QFs), so we only have Slabba in the main draw now:

L32: Alex Slabinsky WR 272 v Samuel Groth (AUS) WR 260

Slabba lost to Groth 4 & 5 in Wrexham last year.

Slabba's also playing in the doubles with the Korean, Hyung-Taik Lee.  Their opponents in the first round will be George Bastl, who's made it all the way from Jersey, & Pavel Snobel (SUI/CZE).

(with updated rankings)

L32: Alex Slabinsky WR 268 lost to Samuel Groth (AUS) WR 265 by 6-7(5) 7-6(3) 6-3 cry

As close as the rankings suggested it would be, but ultimately a point-less trip for Slabba.
cry

This also makes it certain that only one point will be getting added to the rankings for the GB Top 30 next Monday (Feaver's points from last week's Future in Brazil) but 81 points (and a total of nearly 400 places) will be dropped doh

Not entirely, if he enjoys any kind of success with Lee in the doubles.

No shame in losing to a higher ranked player but being broken in the final set by Groth: doh  The guy has a complete darth of groundstroke ability and if you can get his serve back in play you should be onto a winner; obviously Slabba didn't return very well.

Slabba's website hasn't been updated since he reached the final of Sweden 15K.

I do think that Slabba has got some talent but at the moment he seems unable to translate that into results. Hopefully he'll progress next year but I'm concerned that he spends so many weeks competing that he won't have time to put in the work required to fine-tune his game, so that it is good enough to get him victories.

Slabba always has seemed more eager to update his website when he's doing well!

i thought sheddie did it?

from experience its much easier to update sites when players are winning. i have stopped on boggo's for the time being. just leaving a story up about struggling to regain form.

You're right. For some reason I always assume that players do their own sites, having nothing better to do after being dumped out of a tournament.

They are the only seeded pair left in,furious all the others having bitten the dust at the QF stage. Pity Slabba & Lee couldn't keep their end up, too.wink
