Gonna be tough, but I hope Jade (C) can qualify for this one.

edit: clarifying which Jade, although I wouldn't hold it against the other one either if she did. biggrin

What a terrible 1st round draw for Melanie - the girl who beat her in the Pune final. Lets hope she can work out an answer to the Chinese game.

Congratulations to Emily on qualifying, and a winnable match against the player Natasha beat in Pune. Jade C continues to disappoint. Hope Natasha hasn't picked up a serious problem. Look out for the second seed Ayumi Morita who is a competitor to Mel for AO main draw entry.

Great scalp for Windley in QR2.

Mel has every chance. From what I saw at Wimbledon, she aims for the lines. Sometimes it comes off and sometimes it doesn't!

Looks like there was no singles action today, just Emily and Jade C losing in doubles qualifying.

Makes you wonder how she lost so badly to her last week in the 25k final!

Phew! That could have been an unfortunate banana skin but well done to Mel for seeing off the girl who defeated her just a few days ago.

Mel! w00t.gif Lertcheewakarn is ranked no.3 in juniors though so could be another banana skin, but she should win.

Good win Em:)

Mel :) good to see her get that win. She should beat Noppawan. All she needs to do is attack her serve which is dreadful.

Wobbly really seems to be on a roll at the moment, which is great to see - hopefully this good end to the year is banishing the memories of the horrors of the start of they year ... and of course the lack of points to defend means she should be able to make further good progress early in 2009 smile.gif

Edit: today's win will take her back into the GB top 10 ahead of Anna Fitz.

Thank goodness Mel managed to reverse the result of last week's Final - makes you wonder if she'd eaten something dodgy the night before! I doubt anyone here needs reminding, but Mel's next opponent is not only the junior no. 3, she's the player Laura beat in the Wimby Juniors Final.

Just checking out Mels' opponent to see how old she is and it's actually her birthday today - 1991 birth date.

Recent end of year ranking history to compare with Laura's position -

2008 to date 381
2007 590
2006 1196

Em continues to impresssmile
Bychkova's loss in Odense means there is another player who Mel can overtake with a run to the semis here and improve her chances of an AO main draw place.
