While most British interest in Luxemburg will centre on Laura Robson's WTA Tour debut, courtesy of a wildcard (it is also possible that Anne Keothavong made the main draw at the last minute - she withdrew from Poitiers yesterday), there is also a Brit in the qualifying tournament:
Ines has won a game (currently 0-6 1-4), Anne does not feature in the main draw but Laura has drawn Iveta Benesova (Czech Republic) with the winner probably playing second seed Anna Chakvetadze (who opens against Mathilde Johansson of France)
I think this may actually give Ines a ranking. She won a Q1 match in a 50K a couple of weeks back, and has a qualification for a 25K from last November.
So losing here, I think, gives her a third ranking point.... and a ranking (even if only for two weeks or so).
Found this article on the WTA tour site!! Nice little mention of Laura Robson making her wta debut!! They must think very highly of her to give her a mention... Heres hoping she plays a good match!
Sarah Borwell & Courtney Nagle (USA) v (4) Sorana Cirstea (ROU) & Marina Erakovic (NZL) Laura Robson & Gisela Dulko (ARG) v (3) Vera Dushevina (RUS) & Mariya Koryttseva (UKR)
Hope Laura enjoys herself and great to see she is also playing in the doubles. Can't see her winning her singles match but then again you just never know. Still what an occasion for her at 14. Best of luck.
Laura plays first tomorrow on the centre court at 11.30 BST. The betting site bwin.com is streaming from the tournament at times, so may cover it - though you need to have an account with money in. Sarah is 4th on the second court, following Castano v Domachowska.
Benesova was the player Bally beat in the final of the 75K event in Torhout, Belgium earlier in the year. However Iveta was only just beginning to turn round a slump which had seen her fall out of the top 100, and she is much more confident now. It's a match of 2 lefties, which is probably not to Laura's advantage, though at least the last match she played (Kerber) wwas also against a left-hander.
