Week 40 - Challenger (€106.5k+H) - Mons, Belgium

Well look which unranked Brit has popped up in qualifying here ... smile.gif

QR1: Jamie Delgado UNR v (8) Stefan Wauters (BEL) WR 590
QR1: (q7) Jonny Marray WR 550 v Mario Dierckx (BEL) WR 1803

The other seed in Jonny's section is (q4) Vladimir Obradovic (SRB) WR 403.

Boggo has a DA here, but Josh was 8th Alt and two higher-ranked players are seeded in qualifying, so I assume that means he is giving this tournament a miss. cry

Edit: changed Jonny's opponent to the correct Dierckx brother!

Nice to see Jonny here!

I think he will qualify, but it's the luck of the draw form there!

I knew there was something I have been missing...all those Challenger wins and 2 or 3 wins on the ATP tour...!

Im sure Jonny will be top 50 after he wraps this title up biggrin

Not a bad draw for Jonny to be honest, and he has a shot at qualifying here, as Obradovic is beatable, although would be the favourite against him.

Hope Boggo can get a nice draw here, although even a qualifier won't be easy, and Mons always seems to have strong wild cards as well.

Does this mean Jonny's protected ranking has expired?

I thought he was about #330 PR.

Jonny's PR lasts for nine events and 6 months (up till about November), however he isn't forced to use it in every event, and it doesnt count towards seeding.

In this event he would have had to qualify whether he had used his PR or not, so obviously he sensibly decided not to use it.

His PR is # 303.

So far he has used it 6 times:

Dublin SF
Manchester R1
campos R2
Belo R2
Waco R1
Tulsa R2

Oh OK, thanks a lot Bladetiger! thumbsup.gif

At any rate, good luck to Jonny; I can't see anyone bar possibly Obradovic even getting a set off him in these qualies.

I've no wish to detract from Jonny's performance, but that's an excellent win for Jamie, now regarded more as a doubles specialist (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), against the 7th seed in qualifying! smile

For both to make it Jonny would have to beat a guy WR403 but Jamie its a player ranked WR184 in the FQR.
