Australian open 2009

But thats months and months away you cry.

First set of tickets go on sale on the 9th October. Thats 2 weeks away.

This time last year I thought I would have a go at getting tickets for this important event. It took me about 30 mins to get through from 9:00 am (AEST) and I got tickets for every session in Rod Laver. It cost a lot (about a 1000 quid) and this year it has gone up at least 10%.

I think last year it cost about AUD 2400 and this year I think it will cost AUD 2800 and thats a big hike. Not sure what I will do to be honest but I am very impulsive so I assume if I get through on the phone I will go the hole hog again.

Anyone else going next year?

its quite cool that you're able to just order tickets over the phone though.....at wimbledon its either ballot luck or queuing. did you see Andy v Tsonga last year ?

what are the queues like for getting ground passes on the day ?

have you been to any of the other Aussie ATPs - Adelaide/Sydney/Kooyong exhibition ?

I will finish with your first question beacuse it really means a lot to me.

2) The queue for ground passes is quite strange. The first time I attended I was in a queue for about an hour to an hour an a half. Every other time I have been in the queue or seen the queue it was less than 30 mins.

3) I have never been to any other tennis event any where on the planet.

1) First up, yes I saw Andy / Tsonga. Even though I live in Melbourne it was my major holiday. To be honest I bought my tickets on the Andy/Nadal match the previous year. I was very lucky to see Andy V Chela in the round before and really wanted/expected Andy to do well.

I was devasted when Andy went out on the first morning of the first day of what I thought would be a great journey.

After I got over Andy's defeat I saw some great matches including the Fed / Tip 5 setter. That was the best match except for the Tsonga destruction of Nadal which was the most amazing thing I have ever seen.

And finally, I read somewhere, I think it was on MYF that Wimbledon is somehow one of the most accessable slams. I laughed at it because in 2 weeks time, me and you both can get a ticket to the final of to AO and we won't have to leave our chair. Except to grab the next beer.

Enjoy!

Probably my best pic of Andy at AO 2008.

I'd love to go - if only I didn't start to melt whenever the temperature goes over 25c!
