Boggo was 2 pts from 5-1 and then it fell apart...Melzer has stopped hitting the net...and Boggo's ground strokes are letting him down. Boggo went 51mins before he netted a backhand !
One would hope the media isn't too critical. His first set appeared to be amazing, even if Melzer wasn't playing well. And to have taken the first set, and almost the second, against a player ranked more than 120 places above you isn't bad. Yes, he collapsed towards the end. But then again, how many best of five matches does he play a year? It is not, moreover, his fault that the number of top-level players in the UK is so limited that the LTA needs to send him into a match so heavily weighted against him.
Same problem as Boggo has had before with him playing well for a set and a half, only for Melzer to get back into it, steal the 2nd on a tie break and then he just collapsed after that really and didn't put up enough of a fight.
At least he got a set, but up 6-3, 4-1 40-15*, you really shouldn't lose the set, and the sad part was that it was predictable that when he didn't get the double break he would lose serve.
He showed enough to suggest he should beat Peya, and I'd still fancy him to do that, although it's going to be very nerve-wracking if it comes down to it.
Andy did the job though and thrashed Peya to level the tie up and put it where we expected it after day 1.
