Georgie Stoop had a very successful summer in the States, and has returned for a series of strong challengers, just missing the main draw cut here:

Georgie won 6-4, 6-1 and has drawn Puchkova in the main draw.

So it is a rematch with Olga, who Georgie beat at Stanford thanks to 20 plus doubles. They are on first match tomorrow.

I heard that Naomi had a problem which has clearly affected her play this year. It's very sad because the way she was improving last year it really looked as if she would have been in the top 100 by now. I hope that whatever the problem is she can resolve it before long and get back to developing her game once again.

Yes, me too. It just seemed surprising that Georgie was about to catch her - I'd much rather it was happening 100 places higher up, if it happened at all. I've been impressed with Naomi in the past and hope that whatever's wrong will sort itself out before too long and she can get back to enjoying her tennis and moving up the rankings.

This will definitely take Georgie to a new career high around 240. In the process she should overtake Naomi to become the new GB number five. She has no points to lose until 21st October so any points she gains from now until then will simply replace her 17th best score which for a while will be a single point.
