(6)Estrella Cabeza-Candela (ESP) v Caroline Maes (BEL) Vivian Segnini (BRA) v (Q)Natasha Khan (GBR) (Q)Justine Ozga (GER) v (Q)Ana Salas-Lozano (ESP) (2)Katie O'Brien (GBR) v Sara Del Barrio-Aragon (ESP)
This is an important tournament for Katie, who has not won back to back matches since April, and has not won 3 in a row all year. On paper this looks like a good opportunity to change this pattern.
Without meaning to sound cruel I hope that Katie was ill or carrying an injury which heals soon - otherwise that's an awful result. The only crumb of comfort I can think of is that she had a similar embarrassment in the only other 25K she has played this year (Tanja Ostertag), and that didn't alter her general level of performance in higher events for long.
Well done Natasha - one of her best wins for a long while. She plays the 6th seed Estrella Cabeza-Candela (ESP) on Thursday, who defeated Caroline Maes (BEL) 7:6(1), 6:7(5), 6:4
It looks like Katie saw the suggestion yesterday that Wardy's loss could be voted GB loss of the year and decided that she wasn't going to let him win that competition without a fight.
She must have been under the weather to go down that badly, surely.
