One of the most weirdest doubles pairings ever seen in a futures event here. Faris Akhazzan somehow managed to persuade the former top 100 singles player Danai Udomchoke (now ranked 155) to play with him. Even with such a illustrious partner they still lost first round though. Also the Ratiwatana twins (ranked 65 in the world) are playing doubles here (with different partners).

This doubles draw could easily pass as a spoof!



Speaking of Bangkok, Marko Djokovic gets a wild card into ATP Bangkok. Such a classy guy this Novak is, na? About as classy as Nadal, in fact.

Ha ha, that is outrageous! The mighty Marko is currently ranked 417 in juniors, and has failed to score a ranking point in 7 out of his 10 tournaments in the last year. Although he has fluked an ATP point.

I've got nothing against Novak particularly, but his family are definitely low rent.

What goes on behind the scenes is simple. The organisers give Novak a slightly lower appearence fee in return for a wild card to his brother. This also creates a goodwill between the two, ensuring that Novak returns next year. The tournament directors don't care about anything other than money, so why should they have a problem? And your average tennis fan from the street won't go to see a tournament not featuring Fed, Nadal, Murray or Novak...

It's quite common. Nadal does it with his lackey, Bartolome Salva-Vidal, every year in Chennai.


It'll be poetic justice if Marko and Novak face off. Novak once said that he would let his brother win if they faced off (although it wasn't a serious comment), so I'd love to see this match!
