R1: Alaxander Slabinsky v Igor Kunitsyn WR 72 (1) (RUS)

Think we can safely say that is a dire draw!

That's more than a dire draw, that's an Evil (Kunitsyn) draw! He was a late entrant who came through qualifying too, though looking on the bright side, the world no. 482 took him to a 1st set t/b in the fqr.

What a great opportunity I think you mean. A really, really tough match, but winnable if Igor's guard is down.

well if he wants to go anywhere higher in tennis hes going to have to beat players like this eventually, its not like slabb is a 18 yr old young gun.

Slabba has been due a dire first round draw I suppose, so it was going to happen eventually.

I'd be surprised if Kunitsyn lost, but he's not exactly a great player, and Slabba could win if he's plays at his best, and Kunitsyn struggles - don't think he will do though.

Slabba plays tommorow.

He lost his doubles first rounder (w/Guillermo Alcaide) today 6-3, 7-6 to Pavel Chekhov & Marsel Ilhan.

thyats a shame, decent effort tho. and a look at a top 100 player is always useful, better to lose to someone like that rather than a relative nobody

Much better score than I expected, well done Slabba. Pity he didn't manage to nick a set though%2

that really was a shocker of a draw, Kunitsyn went on unsurprisingly to win the title

He was really unlucky, it could have been closer than 4&5. Kunitsyn broke at 4-4 in 1st with a shanked winner and with Alex serving at 5-6 in the 2nd Kunistyn hit a lob winner off the frame at deuce and then a return winner on match point.

good experience against a top 75 player though and Alex is showing he can live at this level, a massive improvement from previous matches against Dancevic and Spadea.
