Well done to her, but I thought she'd blown it when she left a gap with about 500m to go, and then went for the sprint too soon, but she just had enough to hold on.
Not quite as thrilling as the men's road race though, which was outstandingly good.
Shame we missed the Bronze in the Archery, as that will probably be it for our potential medals for today.
And good to see Mary King up in 9th place in the 3-day-eventing, especially as she has her stables about 3 miles from my house!
Jo Jackson and Rebecca Adlington look to have a fantastic chance of a medal in the women's 400m freestyle swimming tomorrow. Qualified with the 2nd and 4th best times for the final!

Men's 4x100m freestyle relay heats were pretty impressive.... we qualifed in 8th place for the final, but smashed the national record by 5 seconds!
But the fatest 3 qualifiers all beat the previous world record... which is now held by what is effectively the USA B-team, as they were probably going to replace all 4 members for the final before that swim.
If the US B-team can break the world-record, it's frightening to think what the A-team can do.
Think we can get a couple of medals tomorrow, with Jackson or Adlington medalling in the 400m freestyle (but think a WR will be needed to win the gold), and possibly Tom Daley and Blake Alridge in the diving, although I think it's only a slight chance of a bronze really
Think we can get a couple of medals tomorrow, with Jackson or Adlington medalling in the 400m freestyle
Never in doubt!
Gold for Adlington, Bronze for Jackson!
Men's 4x100m freestyle relay was a thrilling race, probably the best of all time... all 8 teams broke the national record, 6 went inside the previous world record, the individual world record was broken on the first leg, and the American swimmer on the last leg unofficially swam a time that was 1.5 seconds inside the world record!!!
Round 1 of the badminton, but so exciting - one of our mixed doubles pais Emms & Robertson won the silver medal in Athens and the Worlds in 2006 but Robertson has been out injured for some of this year so they weren't seeded. They got the no. 2 seeds in R1 (Chinese, so the crowd were going bonkers), including one of the players who beat them in the Final in Athens, with this being the last tournament before retirement for the women on both sides of the net.
The Brits came out completely on fire and went a game up (21-16) with a 4-point lead midway through the 2nd.
Then suddenly Robertson drops off a bit and the Chinese go on the attack and before you know it, it's one game all, 17-12 to the Chinese in the final game and the Brits look dead and buried.
Then they find some energy and inspiration from somewhere and win 7 points in a row to make it 19-17, get pegged back to 19-19 then win the next two points to win 21-16 16-21 21-19. Awesome stuff!

anyone think it was a big off by the older diving guy to come out and lay al lthe blame on tom? i watched the 1st few dives and, ignoring the over biased comentray towards tom, still felt that sometimes blake was doing worse. her certianly was makign bigger splashes - and thats a bad thing!
its ike plays a dubs match and afterwards coming out and toally slatting your partner for the loss! just shuldnt happen, you win/lose as a team.
although perhaps blake was trying to defend himself a bit from all the press that was about to hit like ' you let our star down' etc etc, you know the media

Didn't think either of divers dived particularly well, so the criticism is a little harsh from him but you can understand his point that he's been overshadowed by Daley and then the 'star' doesn't perform that well in the final.
The Badminton was brilliant though... they were out of it at 17-12 down in the 3rd (having been a game and 11-6 up at one stage) and then played brilliantly to fight back to get the win, and beating the 2nd seeds who are Chinese is a stunningly impressive win for them, and they shouldn't lose to the Korean pair, so they'll have at least a match for the Bronze.
Well done the David Florence for his sliver in the Canoe Slalom, and then 3-day eventing team for the Bronze medal as well
I got the impression from reading the transcript that he was trying to blame the media for making Tom far more nervous than he normally would be and it was them who twisted it to make out that he was blaming Tom. Not a very clever way of saying it either way, but I'm not surprised things got a bit fraught yesterday after all the hype they've had to put up with.

And we're back to winning Gold Medals again with the Team Sprint boys winning the gold medal on the track (and scarliy enough, that wasn't one of the 9 Gold's (out of 12 events) we won at the World Championships)
Ben Ainslie and the Yngling girls have guarenteed medals as well, while Bradley Wiggins and the 2 girls are odds-on to win medals as well.
What an amazing weekend.....there is a great chance that in 24 hours or so GB will be above the Germans, French & Russians in the medal table....amazing performance in tough sports (swimming, rowing and on the bike). I mean....this is amazing, totally amazing.
And still plenty of medals to come, especially on the track, where we have 99% certain golds in the team pursuit, while the madison, and the sprints should give us 3 more golds.
Keep this up, and we could well achieve the aim of 4th place we've set for London 4 years ahead of schedule, although it is helping that the Russian's are having a terrible games by their standards down in 8th place!
