Week 32 - Campos do Jordao I (BRA) Challenger I [50K+H] - 2008

Jonny has got about as good a draw as he could have hoped for here, I think:

L32: (PR) Jonny Marray WR 666 v Amir Weintraub (ISR) WR 351

Weintraub beat Jonny 3 & 4 in their only previous meeting back in 2006, but he has the most erratic record against Brits I've ever seen. Since then he has lost 0 & 1 to Edward Seator in Spain in Nov 2006 and 1 & 0 to Boggo in Aptos last month, but last year he beat Josh Goodall 6 & 5 in Bukhara. I wonder which Weintraub will turn up!

The other seeds in that section are no. 7 Ebelthite and no. 1 Dabul, the latter being a clay court specialist.

This is a 50K+H, by the way.

Good to see him get another nice draw. Hopefully he'll make the quarters this time.

He should beat Weintraub, so a pretty good draw for Jonny, which is all you can hope for when your unseeded.

His 2nd round match is winnable, but as long as he wins his opening match, it will have been an acceptable week for him.

Jonny's also teamed up with Idan Mark (ISR) in the doubles.  They play the Brazilian wild cards, Henrique Cuhna & José Pereira, in the first round.

The Tiger's on his hols, allegedly, but he's heard that Jonny's match has just finished and:

L32: (PR) Jonny Marray WR 619 beat Amir Weintraub (ISR) WR 350 by 6-4 4-6 7-6(5) biggrin

Sounds like it wasn't pretty and Jonny had to come back from a break down in the 3rd, but it's the result that matters! 6 more points and back into the top 600, he's gradually getting there. smile (7) Ebelthite or Feeney next.

Edit: justwent to post this result on MTF only to find they already knew because results are getting updated at http://www2.uol.com.br/tenisbrasil/resultados/ult249u2265.htm ... there's even a live stream from Centre, should Jonny get to play on there.

That was a bit closer than I'd have liked, but he won, which is the main thing, and nicely into the second round, and doing what he has to do and win a round in each event he enters at this level.

Great fightback as well, so hopefully he can take that into his next match and go on and reach the QF's

Loving the fact that he's winning regularly on outdoor hard.

L16: (PR) Jonny Marray WR 619 v Adam Feeney (AUS) WR 268

Feeney beat no. 7 seed Ebelthite today. He is defending points from his Futures title in Ilkley last year. He beat Josh Milton in Felixstowe last month but lost to Chris Eaton in three sets in Surbiton Challenger qualifying.

Blimey!  That means the fourth (Mello), seventh (Ebelthite) & eighth (Groth) seeds have crashed out today! omg.gif  Nice to see the Aussies knocking one another out, too! biggrin  thumbsup.gif

Sadly, Jonny has crashed out too, in a close one:

L16: Adam Feeney (AUS) WR 268 beat (PR) Jonny Marray WR 619 by 7-5 4-6 6-4 cry

His comeback is going ok though, I'd say.

That's a great shame. cry  'Twill be interesting to see how he fares in the doubles:  he & Mark are due back on court after the encounter between Pella & Borvanov finishes! omg.gif
