This seems more than a little harsh, I cant see how it improve things. Certainly it'll make or break him. What is for sure is that some of the Brits do indeed have a lot going for them in terms of support infrastructure that is maybe taken for granted. You would hope that others would learn from this but for Dan himself, it certainly seems tough.
He won't have to waste his time playing (and definitely losing first or second round to someone 20% as good) USO Juniors. Hence chances are that it'll make him.
Good luck to him for everything this year, though. There are eight more Futures that he can play, plus maybe Jersey - not enough, but if he were with the LTA, chances are that he wouldn't get to play all those, even.
Granted that is a harsh punishment but I believe that it is a just one as it sets down a marker, a lack of professionalism will not be tolerated. I presume most people within the tennis world will be aware of this ban and I think it will deter many from thinking that they can receive LTA funding whilst not following very simple and non-demanding rules [people must remember that although the punishment seems strong, how difficult was it for Dan - x2, to simply stay in and go to bed at a reasonable hour? If he can not follow simple guidelines surely more serious misdemeanours lie ahead.. ]. The same was also the case earlier on in the year when Marcus Willis was [amongst other things] incapable of remembering to bring his tennis racquets to a practise session, however it is now clear that although he was punished the LTA's new no tolerance regime hasn't quite sunk it with some, so Dan's punishment will act [as well as a personal reminder to him of priorities] as a further reminder to British junior/senior players.
Its a tough punishment, but it not unherad of. Remember the lta cut off alex's funding for a suposed lack of comintment and he wasnt seem out partying till late (acohol involved or not) but was recovering from food poisoning and refused to travel to the airport to meet the lta and prove his was sick, although i accept that it was kind of a last straw situation.
I am 100% sure that players need good ammounts of rest to recover and be fresh for matches so it was highly irresponsible of them to be out so late and the lta needed to make a firm statement as we certainly seem to be having some problems with our top juniors at the moment, i dont remember such things happening in previous years.
I am sure Evans will get through this time, it will be tough no doubt, but it will hopefully set him on the right course for the future.

I don't see a problem with the punishment at all, as it shows that if you want to have the LTA pay for your training etc, then you should be reasonably expected to follow their rules (and being caught coming back to the LTA paid for accommodation after 3am twice within 3 weeks doesn't exactly show that).
It sets down the marker than if you don't act professionally then you won't get funding, which is perfectly reasonable in my opinion, and as Evans wasn't acting in the way he should have been, and even if he wasn't drinking, being out until 3am isn't exactly a clever thing to do. (although I'm not sure whether it's more stupid than Willis turning up to a practice session without any rackets... not quite sure what he was on at the time, but he's turned it around and worked hard to get back in favour with the LTA)
Evans needs to show in the next 4 months that he can control his behaviour and not do anything stupid (no late nights when your playing a tournament, no warnings for bad behaviour on the court) and that he can win matches and get's some points on the board (and being pushed that close by Cavaday isn't a great starr, especially given his reaction to losing the second set, but he did win the match)
On reflection, what bothered me most is that the article didn't contain any comments from Dan along the lines of "I dont know what I was thinking.....I am determined to come back from this.....I'm going to be SO committed in the future...make my parents proud etc etc" Of course not many commenst are printed at all but theres a slight suggestion of blaming everything but himself. As I say, this could well be the making off him if he has truly now got the bit between his teeth.
I think this is a balanced punishment. Still seemed to justify his actions a bit but you never know exactly what he was asked and the context he was speaking in. Obviously lots of talent and hope he can move on from this and keep on winning matches. Thats all he can do.
What did he get for the first round defeat at Queens ? Surely that will keep him going financially for a bit.
of course i dont know how his costs are running etc. when alex lost his funding he linked up wtih marston hotels who priovided him a coach (mike at the time) and courts etc (also a sponsored car - a mini with heis anme and stuff writtne on it!)
however alex's split at the lta was ment to be for good, certinaly there was no time limit as such.
i am sure Dan can find courts other than astroturff to play on, its not that usefull for a pro is it.

At least it will give him enough money to travel to tournaments in the UK. And he should do British Tours, too - he'll win a few titles if he's in form.
I like his attitude in the article (although I definitely don't approve of what he has done).
Quote: Most players at this level don't have a coach, certainly not one of Paul's class, to talk to after matches and the thought of having no contact with him is hard, Evans said. Paul's such a positive person"
So Dan is on equal terms with most of the others - perhaps he may take things more serious from now on, although he hasn't indicated this, he only seems to be critical but in fact he only has himself to blame! Hopefully 'one of the others' will now benefit instead.
I was gonna post this cos i read it in work today.
From the article it did seem to show that Dan needs to work on his aggression on court, sounded like he was having a right hissy fit from th way the article was written.
Nothing will ever top the hissy fit thet Brydan Klein through in wrexham last year though. I'm still laughing now.
