Week 28 - Futures F25 (15k) - Elche, Spain

QR1: Charlie Goode UNR v Harshvardhan Thirani (IND) UNR

No sign of the Deester cry but looking at the qualifying seeds, I'm pretty sure the Wardinator has scraped a DA here. smile

Goode is almost Dee-esque although he is only 18 so we can cut him some slack a little I suppose lol.

He's played Futures qualifying 5 times, lost in straight sets every time including 4 bagels and 3 breadsticks. His best result was a 6-4 6-0 loss to unseeded Pole Jan Serdakowski and he was most recently seen being beaten 6-0 6-2 by unranked 16 year old Belgian Thomas Dehaen over in Spain.

He might have a chance here though as his opponent is 19, peaked at 1,428 in the junior rankings and has only played Futures qualifying twice, winning a total of 4 games in the process.

True, I've often wondered if his middle names are "not" and "very" ashamed though his result today wouldn't have seemed too bad if I hadn't known about his opponent's previous form. With Rob Dee getting a late Alt place here, they certainly had the cream of British tennis here ...

QR1: Charlie Goode UNR lost to Harshvardhan Thirani (IND) UNR by 3 & 3 cry
QR1: (Alt) Robert Dee lost to Adrian Perez Garcia (ESP) UNR by 2 & 4 cry

(Thirani went on to lose 0 & 1 to a player with one ranking point, while Perez Garcia lost 1 & 1 to an unranked Moroccan wild card)

Wow, that's a truly dire result for Goode lol. Wonder if he's looking towards Dee as a role model to look up to as a model of persistance and hoping that maybe in 50 matches and 2 years time he might finally get that win.

I have images of Goode hitting with Dee pre match in a kind of "Eaton hits with Fed" style setup.

The Wardinator did get a DA, but gets what for him is probably the worst possible draw:

L32: Alex Ward WR 969 v (3) David Diaz-Ventura (ESP) WR 506

Diaz-Ventura was the player who beat Alex 1 & 4 in the Balaguer Final.

Look on the bright side - that's an improvement of two games!
