Well I guess he feels he'll win it, and will probably be the top seed when it happens, but a very strange tournament choice as he'd probably be seeded to qualify in Penza (where he's 13th alternate) and would have a route to easish points.
As long as he reaches the final, it's understandable to play here, and maybe he's running low on cash so just wants a couple of easy weeks at Spanish futures where he won't have to pay much for travel etc...
could be some more good pts for slabba here, field isn't too strong....eysseric will be one to avoid though
interesting to see where he heads after this, he's not playing the russian challenger in wk 32 which is on clay. He hasn't said anything to me but I have a feeling he'll head to the States and go for Vancouver, Binghampton and Bronx....could be wrong though

Depends how serious he is about playing the US Open qualifying, and whether he thinks he'll make the cut.
If not, then maybe staying in Europe and playing Segovia qualifying, followed by the 2 weak Uzbeki challengers on a hard court, the week of and before US Open qualies is another option, as he could be getting some cheap points that way, but wouldn't be playing the Grand Slam qualies.
A great week here and he could be seeded for Penza, but I'd back him to beat everyone other than the seeded players here, so another win should be what we'll expect from him
Eysseric is playing some dreadful tennis - by his standards - ever since he lost to Murray. Unless he picks it up this week or here (which he possibly will), Slabba will have to try hard to lose to him.
I think Slabba should go to the US, whether he qualifies or not. Even though he isn't a teenager, he's quite inexperienced in terms of playing the bigger Challenger/Tour level players and doing Binghampton, Bronx and New Haven qualies can help him a lot in the long run. Besides, I think he'll qualify for the USO...
