World Team Tennis 2008.

James Auckland will play for the Kansas City Explorers. The others in his team are -

Bob Bryan of the USA
Mike Bryan of the USA
Kveta Peschke of Czech Republic
Rennae Stubbs of Australia
Dusan Vemic of Serbia

The full field boasts some big names like Roddick, Venus Williams, Tursunov, Davenport and many others.

I believe that each tie consists of 5 matches - men's singles and doubles, the same for women, and then mixed doubles.

I don't think the big names will play all the matches. So Aucks will probably play some doubles, too.

I'm not sure of the format myself! Will have to research a bit later on.

I asked Fitz on AM.com a couple of months ago about what role the Bryans will play and he said they would only play a couple of matches.

I think that there are 5 matches, each one set long and then they count up the total number of games won, and whichever team wins the most games wins the tie.

Good article about James here, "Headed Auckland has been good for Explorers":-

Quote

James Auckland isnt much for what ifs.

Sure, Auckland, a 28-year-old Londoner, could have spent his time wishing Britains Lawn Tennis Association had launched its new, high-profile player development system, which includes an $80 million state-of-the-art tennis center and the hiring of a couple of the U.S.s top coaches, a few years back when he was in his prime.

But what good would that do? Auckland would just as soon keep his head in the here and now, which is playing his first season in World TeamTennis with the Explorers.

Nice article there, thanks.

I wish a few more of our players would play WTT but I guess they don't because they would need to three or four weeks off from international tennis. Still, it's a good way to make money and gain experience, so some should consider it in the future.
