Josh - thanks for the report. It sounds a bit worrying about Blloomers' knee, with a 5-setter to come, but at least he has a day off in between and if he qualifies, he'll have a few more days off. Still, if he plays like that with a dodgy knee, he should make sure he hurts it before every match! Sounds very encouraging re. Chris. I wonder if he can serve like that for one more round.
John - I wonder what other people thinks, but that's fine by me. When I've changed thread titles (e.g. when the Wardinator went on his run and when Feaver beat Voltchkov, the main reason for doing it has been to make the more significant threads easier to find if we're ever loking for them in future. Delaying changing the title for 24 hours wouldn't affect that badly at all.

I'm with John on this occasion - I tuned in today to follow the game-by-game updates but saw the thread title too early. It's also sometimes a bit difficult with Andy matches as the presence or otherwise of a next round thread tends to give the game away.
Probably can't get round the Andy issue but a slight delay to changing the title on major tournament threads sounds like a good idea. Perhaps in this case "QR3 starts P11" would suffice, without the "2 Brits" bit.
Where I do find an early change of title good is when something big happens unexpectedly on a minor thread (e.g. Alex Ward's wonder run), to draw attention to something that might otherwise be overlooked (and there are no game-by-game updates there anyway).
Of course, when Boggo loses, please update the thread title early to save me the agony of living through the game-by-game account of how he threw it away!
I'd agree with not changing the thread title until later, apologies for my part in that, I simply didn't think.
As for having a different thread for each round. Personally I prefer it all to be in one place (though having a separate qr1 thread was a good thing) so that all discussion is easily found and linked to each other. When i came back after a weekend away and was reading on here the wildcard issue dicussions there were at least two different threads with similar posts on (different participants) and it left me confused as to where to post any contribution i wanted to make. However, if the majority think new threads for each round are a good idea then I'm sure I could cope! Though I would suggest it was only when necessary - and actually that would rarely be the case outside of Wimbledon qualifying. (or the Surbiton thread from this year perhaps)

Chris lost in the final round of qualies for Surbiton, the final round in the wild card play-offs, and the final qualifying round at Nottingham. That dosen't bode well for today but at least hes had about a dozen matches on grass so far. Today will be a good news day I am sure with both Brits getting through.
Thanks for the list DavidC ... is Karen Cross the only GB woman to have qualified in the last decade then?
Chris is unfortunate to have got so many good results for so little reward in terms of ranking points - I'd forgotten that he lost in the FQR in Surbiton too. At least he's been getting points for the rounds here.

that must be frustrating for chris. hopeufllt a good result here will turn it all around tho. i think it also shows that once again if there was a longer grass season our players collective rankings would be much higher and its the huge disparity in playign surfaces accross the year that skews the rankings. imagien fi the levels of grass and clay tennis were swapped! thats why its even more of a disgrace that nottingham challenger was dropped, more so than the fed & april ones. they said it was to srtop players getting free rides, but the fact that we also fidn that they lose money over these atp's probably means they were at the challengers too and cut them for that reason. ok i could go into another rant but i will stop my self.

I see your point about the disparity of surfaces across the tennis season, Count. And I agree that there should be a longer grass season, I love watching that kind of tennis far more than clay-fests. However, it does beg the question, why aren't our players learning to play on clay? It's not like the fact there is a longer clay season is a surprise. Are there really so few clay courts around the country? Surely that should be the first thing the lta 'fixes' if so?
