RE: Wimbledon 2008 Inter-Board Pick 'Em Competition

Winner picks after 146 entrants

(we're assuming it's not going to influence people too much if I post these because the overall winner is the thing people are most likely to have their own personal view about)

56% Fed
25% Rafa
10% Duckboy
7% Nole
1% Muzza
1% Cmawwn

Is Duckboy Roddick? I might need that one explaining to me in much the same way as I needed GEM explaining...

We have over 250 entrants now (our new stats guru, Bethan, is projecting around 400 by the deadline), and Rafa is closing the gap on Fed in terms of people who have picked him to win - it was 56-25 late yesterday afternoon, 54-30 now.

WINNER PICKS

54% Fed
30% Rafa
8% Duckboy
6% Nole
1% Hewitt
0% Dammit
0% Haas
0% Murray

On this list but with 0% means that one entrant has picked this player to win the title.

Additional FINALIST picks not on the list above include:

Davydenko - 4 or 5 entrants
Ancic - 1 entrant
(Q) Petzschner - 1 entrant
Ferrero - 1 entrant
Blake - 1 entrant

Have done mine. My big gambles -

Anderson takes out Gasquet
Gulbis takes out Nadal
Youzhny reaches the semis

The thing with Davydenko is.... he could easily make the QF's with his draw as there's no-one in that section that stands out as someone who could beat him though (I think I had PHM beating him in the 4th round, but I've got no confidence that he could do that, and whether he'll even get that far)

Don't see how you can say he'll get further than that though, but a QF for him isn't quite a ridiculous as it sounds

I hope to do slightly better than at Roland Garros (I Came in around 300th!!!).

I've got only Eaton (and Murray) of the Brits to get to round 2, which I think is a bit hopeful.

Got Nadal to win it and Fed to be knocked out by Novak in the semis.

Plus I've gambled on Kohlschreiber getting through a few rounds.

Perhaps I should have done more research, but lets see!!!

Good luck all.

I'm in, for the BT team of course. (although being spanked by the Ducklings was tempting ....)

Davydenko to reach the final is hillarius, out in round 2 for me and Kohli to reach the QFs with Rafa winning it

Damn. I'd decided to be a really crazy person this pickem by going for a no-hoper to win, just so that my entry would be a little different to others'. I picked Roddick, thinking I'd be in a minority of one. I'd forgotten that there would be a whole message board of Roddick fans taking part. Now my entry will neither stand out, nor score very well. Oh well.

Thanks to Bethan rather heroically finding somewhere she could get a connection this morning, you can see the final(ish) lists of teams and 409 entrants, about 20% up on the previous record (subject to checking for duplicates, etc), plus a picks % analysis (so that if you remember your own picks, you can have some chance of working out how you are doing and which matches you are likely to gain or lose the most on relative to the rest during day 1) via http://www.britishtennis.net/Competitions.html

The first proper results (and the list of everyone's picks) will be posted sometime tonight, with intra-day updates starting on Tuesday.

Thanks for entering, everyone - lots of teams seem to have record numbers of entrants this time!

I knew I shouldn't have trusted a Frenchman not to withdraw at the very last moment - Monfils is out.
