RE: Week 24 - Queen's Club ATP - London

My dear oh dear was not about the journalistic inconsistency. It can be easily argued that Evans is our top junior. He has been furthest in a junior slam for example and as someone said, he was viewed as the best prospect for this WC.

My dear oh dear was that Malisse was so surprised and that Dan didn't change up his serving or backhand.

I didn't see the match but at least Ward and Bloomers impressed their opponent a little...

I am right in thinking that the Junior tournament is essentially exhibition play?

Yes.

And I am not very much in favour of players doing exhos ahead of pro tourneys. Whatever floats an individual's boat, I guess!

boggo thoughts on the match from 'Wilsden & Brent times'

"It was difficult out there but obviously all credit to Sirianni, he played well," said Bogdanovic.

"I felt like I didn't serve too well - that is one of the areas I have to improve, especially playing on grass. I had my chances early on to break but I didn't take them.

"I have Nottingham coming up next where hopefully I'll play qualifying and get a few matches in before the big Grand Slam, Wimbledon. If I can qualify at Nottingham, then get a good run going, it will be a good week."

Hmm, it doesn't seem to suggest he has a main draw WC, then. I hope that he is in qualies, of course!

And he surely said a lot else. It's dumb to judge someone's views by reading a few lines from a paper. Did you see his post match interview? You can't say unless you see the full thing.

Thats why I used the quantifier, from the snippet of information, coz i didn't have the full interview.

wink

Okay, sorry about that, Matt! smile.gif

And that seems correct, Count. But I still think it'll be best if he and Baker are both in qualies (which I doubt will be the case).

Just noticed that this has now become the second thread on this forum ever to get over 10000 views, joining the Surbiton thread from last week which gained over 27000 views after it became the only place to get live scores.

The encouraging thing about this thread getting so many views is that it's happening even though there is plenty of coverage of Queen's elsewhere.

I think they've been waiting for all the best quotes from the Brent & Willesden Times ... smile.gif

I'm not sure which days the thread got the most hits, I've only just noticed how popular it must have been.

Good to see that Boggo has mastered the art of understatement, as well as that of underperformance!

I don't think anyone has posted links to all the interview transcripts yet, so here they are.

I really like Wardy's interview, which I think has been talked about quite a bit on this thread already. Bloomers is a bit less talkative ...
