RE: week 23 10k turkey izmir

Come on, Tara!

I have been very interested in this Australian girl called Jade Hopper who's playing here. Two weeks back, she was playing a Grade 5 in Turkey, which was shocking for someone ranked 105 in Juniors (an Aussie ranked 105 playing a G5 in Turkey!). So I decided to dig around a bit and got this great article about how her father (and coach) was imprisoned but she still continued her tennis.

http://www.smh.com.au/news/tennis/inside-job-hoppers-grand-plan/2006/11/24/1164341399252.html

Also, she's so far the only person I've seen whose ITF profile lists a coach who is a doctor/has a doctorate!!

Sorry if this is old news! And I still don't get the Turkey connection...

Slater would have got into the main draw but she withdrew. No Brits in qualies.

Not a terrible draw if Tara gets back to her old self.

Not the best way to win a match, but I'll take it. Second round seems winnable to me.

R16
Tara MOORE (GBR) defeated Avgusta TSYBYSHEVA (RUS, 865) 6-2 6-7(3) 6-4

QF
Tara MOORE (GBR) Vs Vivian SEGNINI (BRA) (2, 471)

Good week so far. Two ranking points should see Tara climb back up the rankings a bit (and get some confidence).

The QF is a real test. Segnini has made a 10K SF and F in the last two months (though she did go out in R1 last week).

Nice! Tara back on the points trail!

I thought next opponent looked easy at first glance and then realised there aren't 2471 world ranked players and she's 471 but seeded 2. smile.gif

Very good, that should give her some confidence. smile.gif Next round is difficult, but surely not impossible.

Alas, she lost a tight QF.

Vivian SEGNINI (BRA) (2) defeated Tara MOORE (GBR) 6-2 3-6 6-3

Still, only just edged out of it against a top 500 player.

cry.gif At least this shows that she is slowly coming back.

I think she'll next do Roehampton and Wimbly Juniors, although I hope she'll go for/get the opportunity to go for qualies at the WTA events and Wimbly.
