According to The Sun's bumbling fool of a tennis writer, Charlie Wyett:
"JAMIE MURRAY has asked for singles wildcards at both Wimbledon and the Artois Championships.
The doubles star, who has never played in the singles on the main tour, would then line up alongside his brother Andy in the mens singles first round at SW19 and Queens Club.
Murray, 22, who won the mixed doubles at Wimbledon last year, said: 'It would be a dream come true and why not?'"
Now I assume Wyett is simply filling space following yesterday's lack of headline-grabbing action at Roland Garros? Haven't the Queen's wildcards already been handed out? And why would either of these tournaments give one to Jamie Murray? He was toilet at singles and isn't even ranked any more.
I thought there was still one wildcard left for Queens?
I suppose the reason one of these tournaments would give a wildcard to Jamie is that he'd attract the crowds, moreso than any of the other wildcard candidates.
i agree, however i dont think he would attract any extra crowds woudl he? i never know of wimby or queens to struggle? of cousre if he were playing the court he is on would be busier, just like when any brit plays in a home atp, ut i'm not sure more people would be there who wouldnt normally?

You're right, it might not bring any more people through the turnstiles on the day but it might pay off for the future - the people who turn up might enjoy watching Jamie more than they would enjoy watching, say, James Ward - enhancing their Queens/Wimbledon experience and making them more keen to come/tune in next time.
Do you give the punters someone they want to watch, or someone they've never heard of? And Jamie's done more for British tennis than most, particularly at Wimbledon.
Then again, if he gets double bagelled, perhaps it would backfire.
It's possible for all three to get them at Wimbly. And I am not sure if Bloomers is getting one at Queen's - from what I see, it's between Jamie and some non-Brit.
Giving one to Jamie will not be a great idea unless he starts playing singles part time, at least. Someone just showing up at a tournament, collecting the cash and going is not done.
Yeah if Jamie is going to start to play singles again then thats good but i don't think he can just play 1 singles event a year, thats a bit poor and a waste. Obviously i prefer it to go to another Brit but if it will go to a foreigner then i would prefer Jame to get it.
If Jamie Murray wants a wildcard into the singles at Wimbledon then I think he should get one. He won a wimbledon title last year and that's more than enough to merit a singles wildcard in my book. He was also great to watch and came up with some inspired play, and yes he got plenty of help from his partner.
I think the likes of Boggo and Josh, and indeed Richard, are pretty fortunate if they get wildcards. I'd give one to Slabba for all his efforts last winter and Jamie Baker if he is fit enough.
If Jamie is so keen to play in singles at selected 'high profile' (high paying) events why doesn't he enter qualifying in some other events? Well I answer my own question - apart from a few $10k Futures he wouldnt make the cut.
In the last year he has tried qualifying for TWO events Vina del Mar and Surbiton with one win against totally unranked Jeffrey Zungunde. As for the "It would be a dream come true" surely this applies to everyone who has ever held a racquet.
Jamie's honest statement "this is not part of a wider plan to restart a singles career" shows this as a selfish request which if granted would deprive another serious but as yet unsuccessful dedicated singles player. What next, Jonathan Ross applying for a wild card? - Now that would draw the crowds.
