Thomas decided he'd have a bagel to go with his rankings upset.
QR1: Thomas Deighton UNR beat Artem Strunnikov (RUS) WR 1719 by 7-6(5) 6-0
FQR: Thomas Deighton UNR v (q8) Alessandro Tombolini (ITA) WR 1485
Thomas is 17 and this is only his second attempt to qualify for a Future. His first was in Olsztyn, Poland last August when he beat two unranked Poles in straights and led 3-1 in the final set of his FQR match against a Pole with one ranking point before having to retire. He's only ranked 733 in juniors, but he hardly played any tournaments at that level either.

i wondered where on earth this young lad had disappeared to just the other day as we are now back on the Polish Clay courts where he had a really good qualifying run last year and then vanished!
Good to see him back as he is a definate prospect!
Sorry to see that Deighton lost. How weird is that, Morgan turning up in doubles only. Perhaps he was slightly injured towards the end of last week but now feels ok and wants the practice.
