Week 21 - Futures F14 (10k) - Parma, Italy

QR1: Thomas Deighton UNR v Artem Strunnikov (RUS) WR 1719

Theee are just two qualifying rounds here, but the player seeded to qualify in this section only having one ranking point.

I wonder where Morgan Phillips has got to - he hasn't used a PR the last two weeks or turned up in qualifying.

Thomas decided he'd have a bagel to go with his rankings upset. biggrin

QR1: Thomas Deighton UNR beat Artem Strunnikov (RUS) WR 1719 by 7-6(5) 6-0 biggrin

FQR: Thomas Deighton UNR v (q8) Alessandro Tombolini (ITA) WR 1485

Thomas is 17 and this is only his second attempt to qualify for a Future. His first was in Olsztyn, Poland last August when he beat two unranked Poles in straights and led 3-1 in the final set of his FQR match against a Pole with one ranking point before having to retire. He's only ranked 733 in juniors, but he hardly played any tournaments at that level either.

How weird is that!

i wondered where on earth this young lad had disappeared to just the other day as we are now back on the Polish Clay courts where he had a really good qualifying run last year and then vanished!

Good to see him back as he is a definate prospect!

Morgan Phillips has turned up in the doubles here (but not the singles)!

He's partnering Loglo and they're drawn against third seeds Knittel/Matsukevitch in the last eight.

Sorry to see that Deighton lost. How weird is that, Morgan turning up in doubles only. Perhaps he was slightly injured towards the end of last week but now feels ok and wants the practice.
