Week 20 - Futures F2 (10K) - Heraklion, Crete - Ken Skupski's first title!

Number 1 seed in qualies is Ken Skupski, who I imagine forgot to enter/ chose to enter late, and is ranked 500 places above anyone else in the draw.

Also in Qualies is Jonny Marray currently playing without a ranking but you would think pretty certain to reach the main draw of thise fairly weak event.

So guess who the draw throws up to meet in FQR???

(Q1) Ken Skupski (GB) WR 630 v (WC) Alexandros Siderakos (GRE)
Winner will play winner of
Jonny Marray (GB) v (Q15) Nick Trkulja (AUS) WR 1719

(q14) Tim Bradshaw (GB) WR 1517 v Alex Georgoudos (GRE)
Tim Patient (GB) v (q9) Strahinja Bobujic (AUS) WR 1319
(Q12) Sean Thornley (GB) WR 1254 v Jonathan Schneider (US)

That is the most annoying draw I have ever seen. Hopefully Jonny will beat Ken and Ken will get a LL spot.

That's Bloomers twice and now Marray for the Skupster, he must think someone's got something against him! I must admit, I was expecting to see Bloomers and Ken turn up in qualifying in the same place, so I guess Richard's taking a week off. Lazy sod! winkwink

Edited the top post to add in rankings (where the players have them) and missing seedings and just noticed that ex-Brit Konstantinos Kalaitzis is playing here!

We've got to be hoping for a Jonny Marray win, surely, and with luck a Skupster LL place too. They aren't playing doubles with each other by any chance, are they?

The rankings were in the first post, so I'll just confirm the line-up for the FQR:

FQR: (q6) Sean Thornley WR 1254 v (q13) Whit Livingston (USA) WR 1570

If Konstantinos doesn't even merit a WC for a 10K futures, it doesnt sound like Greek Tennis are too excited by his arrival!

I didn't see this coming ... weirdface

FQR: (q1) Ken Skupski WR 630 beat Jonny Marray UNR by 3 & 2 smilecry
FQR: (q6) Sean Thornley WR 1254 beat (q13) Whit Livingston (USA) WR 1570 by 3 & 2 smile
FQR: Konstantinos Kalaitzis (GRE, ex GB) WR 1719 beat (q16) Noam Yitzhaki (ISR) WR 1719 by 1 & 1 blankstare

... and I hadn't realised that Ken would end up top seed in the main draw either!

L32: (1/Q) Ken Skupski WR 630 v Konstantinos Kalaitzis (GRE, ex GB) WR 1719
L32: (Q) Sean Thornley WR 1254 v Heinrich Heyl (RSA) WR 938 (= about where Sean will be when the last two weeks' points go on)

I know I'm becoming a broken record on this, but given how weak this draw is (top seed WR 630 - that's unbelievable!) and the success the Brits have had here in the past, why on earth aren't there more Brits here, and in particular why have three of them gone to play in Poland on clay?!

Nice solid performance from Sean, and a first round match that isn't too bad either.

As for ken's win. I'm really happy for him after a difficult couple of weeks on the clay. Jonny can't have been an easy person to play. Perhaps slightly worrying for him that it doesn't seem to have been very close but it's still early days in the return and so long as there was no twinges from the injury I don't think a loss here is anything to worry about. Hope Ken can make use of his first seed status (which is pretty ridiculous even for a 10K but there we go.

Boom, hopefully Skupski can knock Klaitzis out, but its a rare occaion because if a foreigner knocks a brit out i would be really happy for him. Oh and Go Thornley, top 100!
