I think Slabba becomes British No 5 in the next fortnight as Henman loses some points.

I think this is the first time the Brits have played in Andijan since some of them got evacuated from a tournament there amid civil unrest three years ago. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/tennis/article522284.ece

L32: (1) Alex Slabinsky WR 370 v Vladyslav Klymenko (RUS) WR 800
L32: (6) Chris Eaton WR 648 v (WC) Roman Piftor (UZB) UNR

Klymenko is the player who beat both Bammy in qualifying and Ward in the main draw in Faro this year on his way to the semis. Apart from that, it's a very nice draw! Looking at Piftor's past results, I expect Chris to be handing out at least one bakery product in his match.

Well done Slabba for seeing off the dangerous Klymenko in straights!

L16: (1) Alex Slabinsky WR 370 v Weerapat Doakmaiklee (THA) WR 783
L16: (6) Chris Eaton WR 648 v Vaja Uzakov (UZB) WR 756

Doakmaiklee beat a top 700 player in R1 here, but that snapped a streak of 8 straight sets losses stretching back to last September which started soon after he retired in the Final of a Future in Indonesia. His previous match to this week was a DC dead rubber against Guccione though, and he took one set in that match to a tiebreak, which is pretty good going. His only previous match against a Brit was a 6-4 3-6 6-2 win against Seator in an Australian Future 2 years ago.

Hopefully Chris can continue to ride roughshod over home hopes here, however Uzakov was one of the Uzbek pair who thrashed Chris & Alex in doubles yesterday.

Andijan is 4 hours ahead of us and the R2 matches have already been completed and (the shocking bit) the results posted.

L16: (1) Alex Slabinsky WR 370 beat Weerapat Doakmaiklee (THA) WR 783 by 1 & 3 smile
L16: (6) Chris Eaton WR 648 lost to Vaja Uzakov (UZB) WR 756 by 3 & 4 bleh

That'll put Slabba ahead of Tigger into the GB no. 5 slot on Monday week, by the way, unless Bloomers goes further than him this week. He has chances to move up the rankings in the next few weeks before his Irish Future Final comes off around Wimby time. Disappointing from Chris though.

QF: (1) Alex Slabinsky WR 370 v (5) Kento Takeuchi (JPN) WR 643

Only two Brits have ever faced Takeuchi before - Eaton and Ward both lost 3-set matches to him in Bali last September. The winner will meet an unseeded player in the semis.

Good to see Slabba starting to string some reasonably comprehensive results together. He's yet to reach a semi so far this year (having gone out at the quarter-final stage five times) so let's hope he can do the business today.

I'm glad that they're playing there. Till last year, I would feel bad about the fact that hardly any of of our players travel to the Russia-north west Asia region. Many of their Challengers have cuts below 500!

I guess Alex doesn't mind making the trip much because he has roots in East Europe.

If Alex wins the whole thing (which isn't very difficult) he'll be ranked around 322. A final appearence (which is likely) will take him to around 336. With another Futures and a Challenger after this, it's very much possible that he'll be ranked inside the top 300 by the time he is back from Uzbekistan.

Actually if he decides to travel to some place the week before Surbiton, he could well be top 250 before Wimbledon with a few good draws, but maybe I am getting too excited!

Quarterfinal

Alexander SLABINSKY (GBR) (1) defeated Kento TAKEUCHI (JPN) (5) 6-2 6-2

Good stuff from Slabba. smile

He's got Ryan YOUNG  of the US in the semis.

Nice, nice.

Ryan Young's recent result are weird. omg.gif In the last year, he has played 10 events and is ranked 992 with 8 points, but all of them come from a single Indian Futures where he reached the final!

Anyway, Slabba should beat him in straights.
