Hope Anne goes far this week being second seed. What a chance to pick up some points and move that ranking up a bit more.

Copied from a translation on WTAworld, I hope Anne and everyone else is OK:-

Three spanish tennis players are being retained in Beirut

Marta Marrero, Lourdes Domínguez and Eva Fernández and also their coach are being retained on their hotel in beirut because of the current conflict on the Lebanon, where the fightings between the government supporters and the Hezbolá armies caused at least ten deaths.

According to Xavi Rubio, Eva Fernández's boyfriend, the three players were in Lebanon playing an ITF tournament when they found trapped by the conflict.

"They are being kept in the hotel, waiting to leave. They can't leave the hotel or go to the airport, there are snipers on the streets" said Rubio. The hotel is half an hour away from the Beirut airport, but "they can't even catch a car", he concluded.

Anna won her quarters 4-6 7-6 (5) 7-5
Think that result shows she's got better mentally and is more determined.

Lebanon is in chaos again....

Methinks this tournament may not get finished. Priority number one= people's safety. I don't know how close it is the trouble spots.

Don't quite know how they are all going to get out, given the airport isn't operating properly.

This should move Anne back up to the GB number one spot on about 118.
If she manages to win the SF she will go to a new career high of about 109.

SF: KEOTHAVONG, Anne (GBR) 2 121 v MARRERO, Marta (ESP) 200

I think she is due to lose 19 points this week, so with her SF she is a net +1 point only - she needs to win her SF to move up to around 118.
