Some weeks have a glut of Challengers presenting opportunities in some relatively weak events. This Challenger is one of them, with Sarah Borwell and Anna Fitzpatrick both likely to be seeded in the main draw. Anna Hawkins and Nicola Slater are in Qualifying:

(5)Lucia Jara-Lozano (ARG) v BYE (11)Mari Andersson (SWE) v Nicola Slater (GBR)
Sarah BORWELL (GBR) (5) Vs Alexis PROUSIS (USA) Viky NUNEZ-FUENTES (COL) Vs Robin STEPHENSON (USA) Mari ANDERSSON (SWE) Vs Nadine RUEGG (MEX) Bo VERHULSDONK (NED) Vs Melissa TORRES-SANDOVAL (MEX) (4) Anna FITZPATRICK (GBR) (8) Vs Shikha UBEROI (IND) Sacha JONES (NZL) Vs Lena LITVAK (USA) Rubi MORALES (MEX) Vs Ana-Clara DUARTE (BRA) Sabrina CAPANNOLO (USA) Vs Soledad ESPERON (ARG) (2)
its a cynical view but unless she carves out a career as a doubles specialist I wonder how long the MCTA will continue backing Fitzpatrick. they don't really have a great record so far with their players and seem to be rather unrealistic with goalsetting, oscar podlewski never showed any really improvement while with them and got dropped..........then last year they ditched the very talented ana veselinovic because she wasn't already top 200
I want Anna to do well but she's just so inconsistent and going by results this year her ranking seems very inflated.....she's got a lot coming off over the next 2 months so could see a bit of a drop
I agree that Anna's ranking is currently inflated, with the 15 Wimby points, but it is only her first year out of juniors, so there's time for her to kick on, in or out of the MCTA. Meanwhile a marathon CTB for the two Annas:
