Another 10K in Spain with a 12layer qualifying draw starting on a Friday. Sadly, despite there being free spaces in the draw, it seems that Robert's media commitments have stopped him from being there. At least, I hope it's that and not because he feels like he needs to lie low for a bit after things got so out of hand. In that context, Derakhshani is there again.
QR1: Charlie Goode UNR v Jan Serdakowski (POL) UNR QR1: Benjamin George Levi WR 1384 v Vitor Requaio (BRA) UNR QR1: Alexander Ward UNR v Hugo Palomar-Castello (ESP) UNR - winner to play (q12) E Rodriguez-Navarro (ESP) WR 1225 QR1: Martin Baker UNR v Marc Garcia-Roman (ESP) UNR - winner to play (q4) Javier Samper-Montana (ESP) WR 951 QR1: Anthony Vogt UNR v Michael Rjazanov (GER) UNR QR1: Paul Brown UNR v Ricard Tubert (ESP) UNR - winner to play (q5) David Estruch (ESP) WR 1025
If any of the Brits win, they will play an unranked opponent in QR2 unless otherwise stated above. Also:
QR2: (q9) David Rice WR 1117 v Carlos Sarrau Royes (SP) UNR or Alexander Savinov (RUS) UNR
Unfortunately, David finds himself in the same section as no. 1 seed Nacho Coll WR 473.

It wouldn't surprise me too much if someone somewhere offered Robert a main draw wildcard this week, just for the publicity it would bring to the tournament.
That would be quite silly, wouldn't it, but I see your point. He's probably provided Reus last week with more publicity than all previous Futures put together. I bet they wish they'd known about it in advance, though seeing what happened, for his sake I'm glad the press only picked it up AFTER he got the win.

but if the press had discovered beforehand, all the major newspapers would have dropped everything and sent their number 1 reporters out there to get the scoop first hand
I know, I just mean it would have been a bit sad for him if they'd suddenly descended to say he was about to lose more consecutive matches than anyone else (unless he had then gone and won in front of them, of course, but I fear the pressure might have been a bit too big!), whereas what has actually happened is that after striving for a win for so long and thinking he'd only get to share it with his parents, he's got global media coverage for it - quite a result, if you ask me!

Just noticed that there's a Future in Colombia next week - Rob could combine escaping from the press with one of the ready supply of WCs he seems to have there. Just a thought!

David was incredibly unlucky with the draw here - just one seeding place off the top 8 and getting the player who was by far the top seed. I notice that one LL place has gone to the no. 15 seed so I guess they must be getting assigned at random.

Even more annoying is that Coll should not have been in qualies as he's 5th seed in the main draw and clearly just forgot to sign on the original entry list.

I don't think that playes should be allowed to do that. It must really annoy fellow qualifiers. A brit did it this week (or last week?) as well if memory serves so I'm not just being grumpy about this incidence.
I know tournaments want the highest ranked players but I don't think qualifiers should be allowed to sign up if their ranking is higher than the lowest ranked MD player.

Just off the top of my head, an exception to the rule would be a tournament WC who could be a local player who may have a very low ranking - obviously not that difficult to cover this loophole.

The LL must have withdrawn, steven, Ricey was in the MD but he came up against Ignatik (582) and went down in three sets 7-5 1-6 2-6. Must have spent all his energy in that first set.
Oh, well that's sort of good, but a pity he lost and didn't get a ranking point for his efforts. Taking Ignatik to three sets is pretty impressive actually!
