Week 18 - WTA Tier 4 - Fes, Morocco

For the first time since the demise of the Cardiff tournament in 1997 two British players appear on the Main Draw list for a WTA clay court event. The Grand Prix de SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem (their headed paper must be a metre wide!) includes both Katie O'Brien, who scraped in on ranking, and Elena Baltacha, who accepted the feed-up offered for winning in Torhout.

The main draw normally takes place here on Saturday, but tomorrow sees the qualifying draw which should also have British interest. Amanda Elliott, who like Katie and more recently Bally, has been working with Jens Gerlach (who coached Anastasia Myskina to the 2004 French Open title) should figure in that. After Morocco the trio all head to Zagreb.

jens jarlech seems amazing. they should just get him coaching all the top 30 girls in a big squad then they will all shoot up the rankings! he really has helped amanda in a big way though

Amanda's section of the qualifying draw is as follows:

(2) SILVA, Neuza POR vs BYE
FONDEVILA CASTRO, Paula ESP vs ELLIOTT, Amanda GBR
SCHAEFER, Anne Priska GER vs RODIONOVA, Arina RUS
(5) SUCHA, Martina SVK vs BYE

A reasonable first match but Neuza Silva will be tough.

Live scoring is currently active  from http://www.protennislive.com/framese...com/tester.asp

The match before Amanda's is currently 62 51 so she should be on in the next few minutes.

Amanda leads 2-1. Just one point against serve so far, is this really a womens match?

Next up is top 200 player Neuza Silva.
The bad news - Silva is on a 7 match winning streak against Brits
The good news - the last Brit to beat her was another Amanda (Keen)!

Silva has beaten Mel South, Georgie Stoop, Anna Fitzpatrick (twice) and Elizabeth Thomas but lost to Jane O'Donoghue and Rebecca Llewellyn.
