M & M back in tandem here and unseeded. Their first match is against the Polish pair, Frystenberg and Matkowski. Not an easy start. If they get past them 'Old Man' Bjorkman and Jamie's partner of this week, Kev, will be wating for them.
I hope I'm wrong, but I see a potential banana skin here!
I fear you're right about the potential banana skin, helki! M & M are gonna have to pull out all the stops to overcome the Poles. Fingers crossed...! I shall be monitoring developments via my PC at work!
We have won her over to the idea that on a messageboard, anything goes :)
If you believe that, Mad, you'll believe anything: you have absolutely no idea how deep my feelings on that subject go! I do, however, accept tht I'm fighting a losing battle, especially with the youngsters, who are no longer taught to value correct use of language, with the result that they are oblivious to the seemingly endless mistakes they make, or, if they're not (& this beggars belief), they're actually proud of being able to give the impression of being barely literate. The fact that they clearly don't care is hardest of all to swallow.
Derek: sorry, didn't mean to! Rest assured that the girl sworn to defend our language from US slang & poor grammar is still very much alive & kicking. It's just that I'm not above indulging in a bit of, er, poetic licence from time to time (call it bending the rules when it suits me, if you prefer! ), I'm afraid.
Fyrstenberg and Matkowski (who always make me think of Rosencranz and Guildenstern for some reason) are an established pairing at number 11 in the double race (M&M at 8), and are 21 and 22 in the rankings (to Mir's 20 and Mur's 32). They reached the final of the Madrid masters last year losing only to the Bryan brothers. I don't think a loss against them is the end of the world. I don't think this partnership has had the explosive start that Murray and Booty did, but that was extremely unusual and I don't think it's been a disaster either. And then of course there's always the question...who would be a better partner? You're not going to find someone with much better credentials than Max Mirnyi.

Not surprised to see them lose, although I thought they may be able to do a bit better than they did.
Still, the Poles are a good team and probably a bit better on the clay, and I don't think we're expecting too many wins in the clay masters events anyway from the two of them.
Any win though will be great to see and then they can get back on the grass and start reaching the final stages of events again
