STEVEN, STEVEN, wake up, Steven!! Rob is back! He goes for glory against American Arzhang Derakhshani (Iranian extraction?), who has lost both of his qualifying attempts this year, winning just five games in the process, including two from young Alexander Ward. He did win a match in October, though, on Spanish clay against Chilean Miguel Parada-Mendez.

C'mon Rob!!

Other Brits in qualifying are the promising Master Ward, who's through to the second round, Charlie Goode and Matt Colledge, who fell at the first hurdle, plus Martin Baker and Paul Brown, who, like Rob, play their first round games tomorrow.

No David Rice - a well-earned rest, or perhaps a wild card from sympathetic Spanish administrators?

Excellent, I had a hunch he might just be back in action here. I'm glad he didn't play on Friday before they even put the draw up!

He might have more chance of winning a set than you think, because Derakhshani's 2 & 0 win was against a player who lost his other three Futures qualifyingmatches 1 & 1, 1 & 0 and 0 & 0!

No Ricey this week?

I assume Ricey couldn't get back in time after his doubles title in Morocco (the Spanish part). Sometimes the organiser gives a player a wild card after a doubles run means he couldn't sign in, hopefully it is a kind organiser!

How will Rob cope with QR2? Will he go all the way now?

It is just totally fantastic.

If steven's post is to be believed, he still hasn't managed to get past QR1 ("QR1: Robert Dee UNR v Artur Romanowski (POL) UNR")! wink

Well surely you can understand and forgive him yet, after all these years of Q1: Rob Dee v ?. Hard to comprehend Rob playing any other round really

Oops yes, I guess my fingers must be accustomed to typing QR1: whenever I know I'm about to type his name. wink (ok, I copied it down and forgot to change it!)

It looks like play was rained off today, so QR2 and QR3 are being played on Monday.

Has Rob ever lasted to a Monday before having entered qualies? Has probably had to cancel his flights lol.

I've always imagined that Rob travels first class around the world, so I'd expect his tickets to be fully-flexible anyway!
