Richard and Ken are in flight to Mexico City I hope they survive this after a 15.1/2 hour flight! (I don't know if Josh flew out as well ) -
"From the moment you disembark your plane at Mexico Citys Benito Juarez International Airport, your body must begin adjusting to the new atmosphere. It is thin, as the city sits in an enormous valley at an elevation of 7,300 feet, and also famously polluted. More striking is the smell. The air here tastes like charred corn. The history of the countrys conquest bears down upon the Valley of Mexico with the fury of the rain clouds that drown away the smog nearly every summer afternoon.
The city's atmosphere is thick with smog; a toxic soup cooking airborne chemicals into ozone. Eight out of ten days are declared hazardous to human health. Just breathing is said to be the equivalent of smoking two packs of cigarettes a day. Adding to the problem are 35,000 factories spewing tons of pollutants into the air."
Qualies draw out which features both Ken and Neil Bamford. Both have a chance at making the main draw (very weak qualies) and we can no doubt look forwards to at least Richard and Josh in the main draw and two teams in the doubles.
I think (?) next week Josh & Neil play the Mexican 15k whilst Richard & Ken try to qualify at the US 50k. I suspect all might then fancy the Lazarotte Challenger???? Does anybody know if thats right?
There are so many Challengers on this week that qualifying for all of them is pretty weak - even Tallahassee has 10 byes in QR1. It's good to see players like Ken and Bammy trying to take advantage. Anyway, here's the draw for Mexico City Q:
QR2: (q7) Neil Bamford WR 841 v George Barth (USA) WR 1807 or Alejandro Medinilla (MEX) UNR - the other seed in this section is (q3) Nima Roshan (USA) WR 638
QR2: (q4) Ken Skupski WR 650 v Pedro Ast (VEN) UNR or Geoff Gehrke (USA) UNR - the other seed in this section is (q8) Antonio Ruiz-Rosales (MEX) WR 964

QR2: (q7) Neil Bamford WR 841 leads Alejandro Medinilla (MEX) UNR by 6-2 suspended QR2: (q4) Ken Skupski WR 650 leads Pedro Ast (VEN) UNR by 4-2 suspended
Their potential FQR opponents have to resume their QR2 matches tomorrow too.
One good draw and one bad one, both in the bottom quarter:
L32: Josh Goodall WR 324 v Qualifier - winner likely to play (5) Prakash Amritraj (IND) WR 261 L32: Richard Bloomfield WR 346 v (2) Robert Smeets (AUS) WR 167
Smeets beat Boggo twice in the second half of last year, one a close 3-setter, one a retirement, and is on a 9-match winning streak against Brits since losing to Boggo twice last April.
Looking on the bright side, Bloomers has only played him once, on home turf in Bath last year, when he beat him 6-3 6-7(4) 7-6(4) and the R2 draw looks pretty good if he can manage to beat him again. However, at the time Richard was ranked ahead of Smeets, he is now ranked nearly 200 places behind him.

FQR: (q4) Ken Skupski WR 650 lost to (q8) Antonio Ruiz-Rosales (MEX) WR 964 by 2 & 2 FQR: (q7) Neil Bamford WR 841 lost to (q3) Nima Roshan (USA) WR 638 by 4-3 6-3 6-2
Neil's loss is just mildly disappointing, but what on earth happened to Ken?!

All of the Brits are in action in doubles tomorrow but not in singles.

Its very sad that Neil and Ken couldn't make the main draw. Just lining up there, and losing in the 1st round would have paid them about the same as a semi appearance in the doubles.
Bamford's loss was expected but I'd have thought Ken could have put a better result together considering the altitude in Mexico City would help his serve fly through the air.
Goodall and Bloomers could do well if they serve well in their matches as they will be tough to break, but Bloomers hasn't got a great draw
