In her last two blogs http://www.lusciousmontenegro.com/sarahmore.php?id=45 and http://www.lusciousmontenegro.com/sarahmore.php?id=46 Sarah has written jocularly about Mel, particularly picking up the "Mel flu", so expect further comment after their match today.

Sarah's last sentence sums up how difficult it is to get by in tennis if you dont make top 100 or so -

"..... By the way, just to let you know how much I won in the doubles event, after beating someone 50 in the world and someone who used to be as high as 35, £210 !!! What a glamorous life!...."

Mel beat Sarah 76 (6) 75 and Naomi also won 62 75

Mel now plays Pandzic, whilst Naomi has Solero-Fromwalls (sorry, SOLER-ESPINOSA. I've just had dinner...)

MD is out. Katie plays Gagliardi and Anne plays a qualifyer/ll

Hope Naomi and Mel can join them both in the MD.

A good week here could see Anne a direct entrant to RG, winning Patras would have been better for her but a qf/sf here might do it. Shes also around 40 points from the top 100 so thats on teh cards between now and august.

If Bally wanted to play here she could have made the MD right ? just not enough time I suppose.

Bally did not enter - she normally only plays a couple of tournies in consecutive weeks because of her long-standing liver problem. If she had entered she would have probably just missed out automatically on ranking - but would have been given a Special Exempt because of Torhout.

Mixed results in the final round of qualifying:

Jelena Pandzic (CRO) (205) def. Mel South (GBR) [2] (158) 6-1, 6-0

Naomi Cavaday (GBR) [5] (198) def. Silvia Soler-Espinosa (ESP) (252) 6-0, 6-2

At least Mel is in doubles, and could nab a LL spot if any come available...

Given Mel's performances this year that seems a very odd score. Hope she's not gone the way of webley-Smith and Scarfi!

Naomi clap.gif

Tough main draw but these days no one will want to face our girls!
