Andy Drops five places to 16, as the 225 points he won when he reached the semi- finals last year come off.  He starts the week with 1455 points.

Blake, Gonzo. Canas, Moya, Ferrero, Ljubicic and Chela also drop places.

If Andy brings home the title, he could climb as high as world number 8 - equalling his career high. Baghdatis, Tsonga, Mathieu, Robredo, Youzhny, Blake, Berdych, and Gasquet stand in his way.

The top threats this week are Gonzalez, Canas, Monaco, Karlovic, Moya, HEwitt, Ferrero, Almagro and Ljubicic.  Everyone down to Wawrinka at WR33 can overtake.

Gonzalez and Canas can overtake by winning their first matches. hmm.gif

Andy has a LOT of points to defend in Indian Wells and Miami. I don't think we should get too downhearted if his ranking drops this month.

From next month he has hardly any points to defend until Autumn - if he stays healthy, his ranking should surely rise again.

The good news, however, is that Canas, Hewitt, Ferrero and Ljubicic all lost as well, so Andy's safe at 13. - down 2 on the week.

Ahead, his close targets Tsonga and Gasquet also lost, so there's some hope for Miami. 

Blake, Nalbandian and Wawrinka won.

Baghdatis has pulled out of Miami but Andy needs to have a good week or he will be out of Top 20 and no seeding for clay masters
