Week 11 - Futures F2 (15k) - Abidjan 2, Cote d'Ivoire

Matt Smith is 1st Alt here and Maniel Bains 7th Alt. Given that the 6th Alt. is no. 1 seed in qualifying, it looks like Matt has made it into the main draw but Maniel's not there.

Holzler was a qualifier with just 1 ranking point, whose coach is shown on ITF as "Vladimir Triffan [and] me myself" smile.gif

Middlekoop on the other hand is WR 257 and had a 19-match winning streak in African Futures at the back end of last year, winning three tournaments then w/ding from the Final of the fourth. He lost in R1 in Abidjan last week though. He has won 8 of his last 10 matches against Brits, only Jonny Marray (twice) having been able to beat him.

2 points in 2 weeks. Possibly the most consistent Matt has been for a good while!

Well doen Matt! Onwards and upwards!

Matt completes 24 hours of woe for the Brits in men's singles around the world, though given that he was playing Middelkoop, this one wasn't unexpected - hard to remember when Matt was in the top 300 though.

L16: Matt Smith WR 924 lost to (1) Matwe Middelkoop (NED) WR 259 by 6-1 7-6(5) cry
