This could be dangerous. His opponent is 17, doesn't appear to have a junior ranking and has a 1-7 pro record with his only victory coming by retirement!
Could be foiled at the final hurdle

I should mention that Robert is only on for equalling the record tomorrow,he would have to lose again the following week to break it. It's going to be an exciting day though.
Here's the full GB-relevant draw - lots of Brits here, including Morgan Phillips, back in Spain and in the same section as Nadal (Jorgi Nadal, that is) - a bit sad that he didn't draw Dee, to be honest. All players unranked unless a ranking is shown:

Great from Morgan, WCs are always unpredictable but this one looks to have been a great opportunity for a confidence boost for Phillips. Hopefully he'll be able to qualify this week and start the move back up the rankings.

Oh no, that's a pity still, at least he's getting closer.
Ward's opponent is WR 680 (James is WR 508), a career high, but has only won 2/8 matches so far this year. His last 2 matches against Brits were a win v Brewer in 2006 and a loss v Hutchins in 2004. James beat Vasiliev in doubles last month.

The fella Wardy faces in the first round also competed in Cuba a few weeks back where he was beaten 6-3 6-3 by Yohny Romero whom James then beat 6-4 6-3 in the next round
