QR1 Matthew Illingworth v Michal Schmid (Cze) Burnham Aldridge v Julien Lorenz (Ger) Tim Hewitt v Francisco Dias (Por) Joshua Morris v Jonathan Florez-Cohen (Esp) Ben Dunbar v Florian Reynet (Fra) (15) Luke Campbell v Remko De Rijke (Ned) Neil Bamford (14) v bye Chris Eaton (8) v bye Morgan Phillips v Pedro Sousa (Por) Martin Baker v Francisco Charters (Por)
Apart from Morgan potentially playing Chris Eaton in R2, the other bad news about this Future is that it's stronger than this week's, when Bammy was seeded 6 in qualifying and Chris got a DA. That's particularly worrying when you remember what a mess they made of the 'easy' Portuguese Future this week!
Comparative rankings are:
Illingworth WR 1063 - opponent unranked Hewitt WR 1010 - opponent unranked Dunbar unranked - opponent WR 857 Campbell unranked - opponent WR 1095 Bammy WR 820 could meet WR 989 in QR2 Eaton WR 645 will meet Phillips WR 1403 or Sousa WR 1492 in QR2
In the other matches Wolf listed, both players are unranked.

Ben Dunbar's a pretty good player, seen him a few times in Corby. Think this is the first time he's played an overseas Futures so will be interesting to see how he does.
Morgan got a good chance to pick up another win in the first round and the match against Eaton should give us a good idea where his game's at. Hard to see him winning it though, might have to wait another week or two before he picks up points again.

Well what do you know, turns out that was an intra-day update - never seen that on the ATP site for a Future before - and now R1 has been completed. Just getting the results together ...

QR1: Matthew Illingworth WR 1063 beat Michal Schmid (CZE) UNR by 3 & 2 QR1: Burnham Aldridge UNR beat Julien Lorenz (GER) UNR by 6-2 2-6 7-6(4) QR1: Tim Hewitt WR 1010 beat Francisco Dias (POR) UNR by 3 & 4 QR1: Joshua Morris lost to Pascal Benz (GER) UNR by 0 & 1 QR1: Ben Dunbar UNR lost to (15) Florian Reynet (FRA) WR 857 by 0 & 3 QR1: Luke Campbell UNR lost to Remko De Rijke (NED) WR 1095 by 4-6 6-2 6-2 QR1: Morgan Phillips WR 1403 lost to Pedro Sousa (POR) WR 1492 by 2 & 4 QR1: Martin Baker UNR beat Francisco Charters (POR) UNR by 6-0 4-6 6-2
Sadly, but perhaps predictably, it looks more and more like Morgan will drop out of the rankings before he starts scoring points again. Still, it's a good strategy to play without using his PR now and then make use of it when he's back into the swing of things and has a chance of winning main draw matches.
QR2: Matthew Illingworth WR 1063 v Alvaro Gragera (ESP) UNR QR2: Burnham Aldridge UNR v (q4) Petru-Alexandru Luncanu (ROU) WR 592 QR2: Tim Hewitt WR 1010 v Amarit Sanchez-Thammakrong (ESP) UNR QR2: (14) Neil Bamford WR 820 v Laurent Vigne (FRA) WR 989 QR2: (8) Chris Eaton WR 645 v Pedro Sousa (POR) WR 1492 QR2: Martin Baker UNR v Andoni Vivanco-Guzman (ESP) WR 1403
Half a dozen Brits in QR2 - could be worse!

I wonder how many people looking at that draw think it's the same person. Still, it must be fun for those who beat him ... "I beat Ivan Ljubicic today!"

QR2: Matthew Illingworth WR 1063 beat Alvaro Gragera (ESP) UNR by 2 & 3 QR2: Burnham Aldridge UNR lost to (q4) Petru-Alexandru Luncanu (ROU) WR 592 by 2 & 2 QR2: Tim Hewitt WR 1010 beat Amarit Sanchez-Thammakrong (ESP) UNR by 1 & 4 QR2: (14) Neil Bamford WR 820 lost to Laurent Vigne (FRA) WR 989 by 2-6 6-1 6-2 QR2: (8) Chris Eaton WR 645 lost to Pedro Sousa (POR) WR 1492 by 5 & 1 QR2: Martin Baker UNR lost to Andoni Vivanco-Guzman (ESP) WR 1403 by 3 & 0
Well done to Illingworth & Hewitt, but we seem to be heading for another disaster in Portugal, with no Brits having beaten a ranked opponent here in Lagos yet Neil and Chris going out at least two rounds before they were seeded to and already another double Brit-killer in Sousa, the fourth so far including Faro - not a nice draw for Morgan or Chris, but even so, someone's got to stop these players!
QR3: Matthew Illingworth WR 1063 v (q9) Aleksandr Yarmola (UKR) WR 667 QR3: Tim Hewitt WR 1010 v (q5) Maxime Authom (BEL) WR 593
Authom only just missed out on an SE, losing to Machado in the Faro main draw QFs, having beaten Sousa (a LL last week) in R2. Yarmola's not too bad either. In other words, I doubt there will be any GB qualifiers this week either.

Still waiting for Eaton to spring to life, he's a great talent..............Hewitt might just pull a rabbit out of a hat though! I doubt it but we'll see!
