Just a note that Marcus has a tennis tournament this weekend. It is our first road trip for tennis and we are all going out to Billings, Montana. Billings is about two hours east of Bozeman and is the biggest town in Montana.
Marcus will be playing in under 12s & under 10s singles. He is not playing doubles this time.
In the 10s he is in a draw of only four which has got his hopes up (maybe a little too much). I don't know any of the kids he is playing so I have no idea how this will go.
In the 12s he is facing a kid who has only played tournaments in Billings, but has beat the number 4 player in the State at under 12s singles. Obviously, that will be a struggle for him, but being that he is only 8 I expect that.
I will try to update the scores, but I am not sure how much access I will have to the net at the motel. The tournament does have a website and I have heard they update the final scores as the matches finish (or at least did so when my friend's daughter played there last year).
Look forward to further updates mate. Send my good luck to Marcus

Exciting stuff - good luck to Marcus and don't turn into Mr Dokic if it doesn't all go right, Douglas! (I know you won't )
No, I am not nuts like Mr. Dokic, sitting in the street and complaining about the price of food....I am much more like Marinko Lucic....no....I am laid back. Before every match I simply remind to have fun, do his best, take full swings and move his feet. That is all I ever say to him.
He just came in from school and I read your messages to him. When I told him you were all from Britain he was happy.
I am typing this in the lobby of the motel while my daughter is begging me to take her swimming, but wanted to let you guys know that Marcus lost last night. We played in a bubble. I have to get some pictures as it looks so funny.
Anyway, Marcus played really well against a kid who is just about to turn 13. Marcus is normall game is to get everything back and bet that the other guy makes more misses than winners, against this kid that went out the window. It was great watching him hit out, but he ended up going down 6-0, 6-1. He played well, esp one hit down the line on break point. I was very proud of him.
He plays again in about three hours, this time in the 10s singles.
Just wanted to give another short update. He won his 10s match today 6-1, 6-1. He played well against a ten year old who is not as experienced as Marcus. The other lad had okay ground strokes but really struggled with his serve, being a couple of years older he was bigger and stronger though. I think Marcus knew that all he had to do was a hold a time or two each set and he would win.
As there were only four in the draw Marcus plays his first final in the morning. I am really excited for him. He is playing another 10 year old. I think he has a fair chance.
He also has a consulation match in the 12s a couple of hours later. He has played this lad before and won in two tight sets.
The only bad news is that Marcus has gone down with a cold and is even coughing in his sleep. My wife wonders if two matches might be one match too many, we will see. I'll tell him if the plays and feels bad he can have Monday off school!
Woow, well done to him - 1 & 1 against someone 2 years older sounds very impressive! Fingers crossed for his Final today and that he doesn't feel too ill to do well.

Just a quick note.....taking my daughter swimming again.
Marcus beat another ten year old 6-3, 6-4. Great match. The points were longish, they were on court for an hour and a half. Marcus has his first trophy. He played great. I'll get a picture for you guys soon.
