5- Katie O'BRIEN (GBR) vs Rika FUJIWARA (JPN) WC Audra COHEN (USA) vs Lauren ALBANESE (USA) Angela HAYNES (USA) vs Q Q vs WC 2- Laura Granville (USA)
Lisjak is 20 years old and ranked 232. A former Top 100 player (95), but having watched her against Hingis at Roland Garros that same year (2006) Ive no idea how she managed that. Quite a tall girl, plays from the back with an okay serve. Anne should be going into this confident. Ivana lost comprehensively in her only singles match of the year so far (against Yuliana Fedak first round Aus Open qualies). These two have never met before.
Melanie SOUTH (GBR) vs WC Jamie HAMPTON (USA)
Jamie Hampton only turned 18 a few weeks ago. Currently ranked 594. Not much to go on really, although you WTAWorld people probably know more. This is a bit of a gift for Mel but round 2 could be a nightmare.
5- Katie O'BRIEN (GBR) vs Rika FUJIWARA (JPN)
Another former Top 100 player, now ranked 190. Interestingly Rika won the 50K tournament last week (Waikoloa) beating Julie Ditty in the quarters and Sandra Klosel in the final. First time these two will have met. If Katie goes into the matches here with the same approach as she did her Fed Cup games shell do well this week.
did anne and katie get points for playing singles in the fed cup. they have both moved up the rankings katie at 121 and anne at 134 thats very high and a nice run of form from katie could see her DA for french open and a few wta events
Kutuzova is in reasonable form, having reached 2 25K semis this year, losing on both occasions to eventual winner Sesil Karatantcheva, who is making up for lost time after her drugs ban, and is currently 16-0 for the year. Mel will probably meet Sesil in round 2 (Sabine Lisicki has withdrawn after her Fed Cup exploits) if she wins tomorrow.
