British Men - Top Players (+ whereabouts/progress)

First post updated with Tuesday's results.

A rubbish day, with Boggo losing in straights to Gremelmayr in Hawaii, while Bloomers, Smith (due to play each other next) and Flan (who upset Kasiri and is also in the top quarter) were the only three (out of 14) Brits to get through in Sheffield. Skupski lost to an unranked qualifier.

Ed Seator lost to a lower-ranked player in Costa Rica too.

Josh & Slabba are yet to start in Albufeira.

First post updated with Wednesday's rubbish results from Albufeira and as our sole QF-ist in Sheffield, it's Bloomers or bust for the second week in a row.

First post updated as Bloomers continues to fly the flag - 8 wins in a row not to be sneezed at even if they are one level too low.

Thanks Steven, just one question...you know how the Change 2007/08 title has been changed to reflect the new year...are you sure the numbers have been changed? It's just I'm pretty sure Slabba hasn't moved up 400 places in the last two weeks of off time. Or that Skupski rose 1272 following his round 1 defeats so far this year. Or any of the others for that matter. smile.gif

It used to say "2007" - "2007/8" is supposed to mean the change over 2007 and 2008 combined, it'll change to "2008" at the end of this month meaning the change over 2008 only.

There's not enough space for those titles, hence the ambiguity.

Updated with Bloomers' loss in the Sheffield semis, which completes the week apart from waiting for the precise new rankings.

Out of the six of our top ten who were in action this week, no less than four went out two or more rounds earlier than they were seeded to and Seator went out a round early, making Boggo's round 1 loss the least worst outcome of the week relative to rankings expectations for our top 10 in what was an astoundingly bad week.

Last week now shows the week just finishing, this week shows week 5. Just for Bethan, the yearly ranking changes are now for 2008 only.

RE: British Men - Top Players (NEW type of table)

I've been posting these tables for about two years now and for a while now, I've been trying to design a table with more info but easier to read, also that one that can be FTP'd to the web so that I can spend less time getting each update displayed and more on the information it provides.

If you would like to see what I've come up with (finally completed during the AO Final, at the changes of ends LOL and now with today's new rankings added), you can find it at http://www.britishtennis.net/gbtop25m/2008wk05.htm

The new table has a lot more links (e.g. to ITF & ATP profiles, to the players' own sites, to top 18 breakdowns and so on - basically, if the text is blue, you can click it!), while the highlighting, in conjunction with the usual smileys) is intended to let you see at a glance if it's been a good or bad day/week. New too are:

- a column that shows who each player is due to play next or who they were KO'd by
- a more transparent split of the points gained and/or going on the rankings which should make it easier to work out what's going on re. Futures points being added a week late

All this has made the table a fair bit wider but, I hope, clearer.

Anyway, before we work out how best to link the new table in with the site, I'd be grateful if some of you who use the existing table could have a look and let me know whether the new one fits on your screen ok, what you like or dislike about it compared to the old one, whether there's anything else you would really like to be added and whether there are any columns on there you think we could really do without! biggrin

it does look good, but would it be better if each column/row was lined in, as when you get to the rhs it can be a bit harder to keep track of which stat is for which player (or maybe its just me) esp when a lot it is blank.

Thanks Count, I was thinking about that, but colouring every second line doesn't really work when there's highlighting as well, putting every second line in italics works but doesn't lok that good and adding lines causes a mess every time the table is sorted.

However, I have now added lines after every 5th player (I think the eye should register whether the player is the one in the middle between th lines at either edge or just above or below the middle) and repeated the player names (with just initials to avoid increasing the width too much further) over towards the right. Is that a bit better?
