Count, I love your new conspiracy theory, I imagine you're going to have lots of fun with it! ... I think it was mean-spirited of the Moods to pretend you can't spell 'finale'.
What d'you mean "Mods/(Moods?)", DJ? I ain't no Mod, just a bog-standard poster on this 'ere board, not to mention an ex-professional technical translator with a self-appointed role as guardian ( ) of the (British) English (no Yank allowed ) language! Need I say more?

Apologies if you thought I was having a dig at you, Stircrazy, nothing was further from my mind! I was playing along with Count and those moderators who had joined in the fun; it wasn't your correction of 'finale' to which I was referring, it was Count's original one - I was pretending to believe that it was incorrectly spelled on Count's postbecause a Mod had sneakily changed it - in the same way as 'Mod' had been altered to 'Mood' by someone (perhaps the same someone who changes Drew's 'damn' to 'dam'!). Oh, hell, anything attempting humour sounds incredibly lame when explained, n'est-ce pas? Do I wish I hadn't bothered ... ?!!
Here's what you had before: (NB you've lost Bloomers's doubles high in the new table)
For starters, how about this?
This week, week 3, sees the 4th successive week in which there has been a British victory somewhere in the world!! I know that may seem far-fetched, but cast your mind back - 2007, Week 51, ALEX SLABINSKY wins a Futures in Nigeria
2008, WEEK 01, ANDY MURRAY wins the Doha Open and JAMIE DELGADO wins a Doubles Challenger in Brazil 2008, WEEK 02, JAMIE BAKER wins through final qualifying in the Aus Open 2008, WEEK 03, RICHARD BLOOMFIELD wins the Sunderland Futures 10K and RICHARD and KEN SKUPSKI win the Doubles
In rankings terms, there are new (provisional only at this stage) CAREER HIGHS for
MILES KASIRI 507 ED SEATOR 527 JAMES WARD 552 CHRIS EATON 643 JOSHUA MILTON 1239 DAN SMETHURST - first ranking point RICHARD BLOOMFIELD Doubles 180 KEN SKUPSKI Doubles 432
If anyone has spotted anything I've missed, or can correct any errors I've made, please do so, with my thanks.
(NB you've lost Bloomers's doubles high in the new table)
Richard's 'up' points were gained in week 03 but, as they were from a Futures, don't appear till today; his lost points were from week 04 but, as they were from a Challenger, they disappear today! Richard won't, therefore, have ever officially been at his new high - life's not fair when you're struggling, is it?
Ken's, Matt's and Dan's terrific wins move them up again to more Career Highs; Ed moves a step closer to the magic 5C with his first round victory in Mexico.
Ed Seator - 525 Ken Skupski - 679 Matt Illingworth - 1063 Dan Smethurst - 1276
- all 'projected' positions, of course, but, hopefully, to be confirmed a week on Monday.
Points gained in Futures events the week before last (Week 04) appear in the rankings today, so congratulations on new Career Highs go to Ken Skupski - doubles - 409 Ed Seator - doubles -573 Chris Eaton - doubles -722 David Rice - doubles - 858
There are also slightly artificial new highs - due to the falling away of others, rather than to new gains of their own - for Matthew Bright - doubles - 1320 Matt Illingworth - doubles - 1320
This information all appears in the updated table in the first post of this thread - or will do, as soon as I've typed it in!
1st point for Bradshaw: "........ ended up in the MD as a lucky loser - and made the best of his opportunity by hanging in there to beat the unranked Yankee qualifier, Anthony Gomez, 6-7(2) 7-5 6-4! "
No, Rob, not the first; Timothy won that on the grass at Frinton in June of 2006, beating David Rice. Sadly, it 'lapsed', which is why he's been off the ranking list since last summer. it will, though, bring him a mention in the next post!
On a different, note, please could you move the two 'NEW CAREER HIGHS' posts, immediately above your last one, to the top of the thread, so that we have the triumvirate of VICTORIES, SINGLES HIGHS and DOUBLES HIGHS as the lead items? Ta.
As a result of his revenge victory, in the guise of a Lucky Loser, over Anthony Gomez in Mexico, there is a welcome return to the rankings, and a projected career-high, for
Derek, unfortunately I have the power to delete or edit posts, but not to move them.
As a result, the only way to put the three posts all together at the top of the thread would be to delete all the posts made by other people in between.... not ideal.
It may be better if you were to start yet another new thread with these three posts as the first three. sorry.
