Morgan Phillips LTA interview

Was in this month's issue of British tennis....all about his injury...here's a brief synopsis:

It happened as we know in rd2 of a futures in Italy back in March. Having beaten the top seed (who was ranked about 210) in 3 sets in rd1, Morgan was leading a Cypriot qualifer 6-2, 4-0   and was running out wide for a backhand, but as he slid into the shot, his foot got caught in the clay (in bad condition after rain) and his knee buckled with a big bang. He couldnt bend or straighten it and excruciating pain kicked in when the physio took a look. Against advice, Morgan tried to continue but couldnt even stand up on it.

The hospital x-ray that day said there was nothing broken but that seemed unlikely so Morgan saw another doctor who diagnosed ruptured cartilage and told him to expect the worse. However after a scan, it was diagnosed as just a twisted knee and he'd be fine in a fortnight.  5 weeks later, he still couldn't walk so went to the LTA for help

The surgeon found that unlike the usual injury which footballers and skiers get where the cruciate ligaments which bind the thigh and shin bones, rupture; in this case, the cruciate ligaments held firm and the cartilage at the back of the thigh bone was blwon away

Since then after intensive rehab he was back on court in September and started matchplay earlier this month. He's returning to his Valencia academy in January and aims to start playing tournaments again in Feb
